  • Hi Everyone

Day 2 of this challenge for me. Your posts and tips are so interesting andinspiring. Having never thought about really trying hard tosignificantly reduce our Grocery spends before this is so eye opening for me.You lot are amazing.

I have never, ever, even looked in the marked down sections in supermarketsbefore let alone bought anything :o

So today I did!! I went into the CO-OP today to buy 3 packs of Mission Wrapswhich are down to £1 each and have a long shelf life for lunchboxes. There wasthe reduced section staring at me - I had never even noticed it before! Theirmark downs were quite extensive in terms of the range of stuff they had, not asreduced in price as some of you guys are quoting for things you have picked upin larger supermarkets, however it is a start. In fact its a revelation!

I bought some fair trade herbal teabags for £1 down from £2.59 and 2 packsof Blue Ribbon biscuit bars for 50p each down from £1.19 each -both productsnot damaged or even out of date until end of January. Small win but I felttriumphant leaving the shop!! :)

So my question is, what time of day / which days of the week do you guysfind the best deals in the big supermarkets?

Just got an e-mail with a £12 off of a £60 online shop at Tesco. I've never bought from them before (other than a few of the massively marked down items at the local Tesco Express). Our typical budget for a month is £50, so if I can get all we need, I think it will be worth it. Thing is, how much does delivery typically cost? I don't want the delivery cost to eat the discount!

Another day without a GC spend...though DH did buy himself a box of fancy tissues as he's killed with a cold. Have put together a meal plan to keep me out of the supermarket.
Veggie cheeseburgers, baked potatoes and sour cream tonight.
    Tomorrow is veggie katsu curry.
Thursday - not sure yet as have to rummage through the presses.
Friday - beef stew (for 8. Need more veggies!)
Saturday - veggie pizza (need to get mozzarella and yeast)
Sunday - roast chicken (as a treat!) with veg and gravy
    Monday - same as Sunday
Tuesday - leftover chicken curry (freeze half for later)
Wednesday - leftover chicken wraps, plus make stock for leftover chicken soup to freeze
Thursday - something veggie lol :)
Attempting to stay on track in the Grocery Challenge!

  • Quick pop in tonight to update my status. Small spend yesterday topping up for the next few days:

Warburtons Rolls, Broccoli, Semi-Skimmed Milk and Vienetta = £5.28 which brings my running total to £243.80

    Hope to post more soon.

  • Bit peeved with my Mr T order this week and last. Ordered it for 8-10 on a Monday morning and they were over half an hour late both times.
No apologies, no phonecall and unlike Mr S, no voucher to say sorry!

    Bah humbug!

Ok, just did a quick look through Tesco's website at our normal buys. Way too high priced for my taste. I'm assuming they don't price match unless it's the exact same name brand? We always buy store brands when we can.

    Example: Tesco 500g spaghetti (dry) = £0.39
Sounds good right? I typically pay £0.24 for the exact same thing at Morrisons, store brand.

That's just one of the things that was more. Guess I'll just keep walking and hauling groceries home.

I tried T's price promise for the first time yesterday after reading about it on here - 3 big receipts about £100 each but they were all cheapest at T. I should be pleased really that I haven't been ripped off shouldn't I!

Flapjack makers: I tried some the other day but it's really crumbly :-( Any suggestions to improve my recipe for next time? I would like it crunchy rather than chewy. TIA.

I had my T's delivery yesterday. I get one roughly every 10 days. Disappointed that it still came to £116, despite my more focussed efforts on cooking from scratch etc. I did stock up on baby food as DD's just started weaning so won't need so much of that next time. (I know I should be making my own baby food but I'm not in the swing of things yet, and still struggling with post natal depression so going easy on myself.)

Just a note to say have you considered baby led weaning? You don't have to go out of your way to buy anything different, they go straight to solids and just eat what you eat! I found it far less stressful and much more fun! :) Check out https://www.letyourbabiesfeedthemselves.com if you are interested x
