Nobody is asking the op's manager to investigate it.
Just what the op should do about it.
If it kicks off, then the management could well be left with a much bigger issue to sort out.
To repeat or not, just because YOU didn't ask the manager to investigate it doesn't change my opinion on not involving manager at all, as a manager I would have to either investigate, or not get involved what so ever.
Popping in "just for advice" would set me immediately in the thought process that OP just wants me to be aware of Thingy's character, possibly as a repayment for the bullying investigations.
I was not replying direct to you, I was just putting in my 2p worth, so I don't know why are you repeating yourself.0 -

Repeating because you have misinterpreted my comments.
You said 'I am sure that the bosses above me wouldn't be happy if I spent my time investigating something that was done off company time.' Which is not the case at all. I have never mentioned getting the manager to investigate.
The OP has already been accused of bullying this person. They need to tread very carefully about instigating a witch-hunt. Which will happen at work because - guess what - they all work together!If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
. I just don't believe the scarf story.
Why on earth would the OP make the scarf story up? To impress a group of people she doesn't know on the internet?
If you don't believe what the OP is saying then why are you even bothering to read the thread and why on earth are you contributing to it? Do you have nothing better to do?0 -

Sorry, there was several people saying "go to their superior to sort" etc, how do you know I meant you, I didn't quote you?
Sorry, I actually wasn't replying to your comment at all! I was thinking out loud why I would not go with the idea SEVERAL people suggested!
I agree completely on the bullying accusations. Read again what I said - if they came to me, it would have been the first thing I would have thought of!!0 -
She stole not only from you but the others, you need to get them together and confront her as a group not an individual.
Where does the line get drawn - she steal money from the table, what next your purses at work?
(This is not a work issue to discuss with bosses but to be done by the people at the meal).Everything has its beauty but not everyone sees it.0 -

Are you sure? You seem to have suggested it yourself.Sambucus_Nigra wrote: »Gibson - you need to gather your evidence objectively from the restaurant and approach your manager and ask them what they want you to do.
They could easily call the restaurant up and get it confirmed.
It's like when someone steals the lottery syndicate money, it's not work but it's still work - and management have a duty of care to get involved and not leave it to one member of staff to deal with.
It's NOT a works management issue. Management can't get involved enough to take ANY action. They may wish to know in case that employee is light fingered and does it at work but they cannot discipline anyone for something that happened offsite and nothing to do with work. (Disclaimer!!! Unless they are in a prominent position and do something that would bring the company into disrepute - this incident is not likely to involve the police or media)
Next you'll say no-one's asking her to be disciplined - so what do you think management should do?

'Asking them what they want you to do' is about asking their advice on how to handle the situation, not about asking them to resolve it.
I'm sorry you can't understand that - but that's what it says.
For clarity:
Them = the manager
They = the manager
You = the OP.
Asking the manager what the manager thinks the OP should do about it.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. It could easily have been a genuine mistake. Just ask her.Mortgage when started: £330,995

Noted, but you also said management have a duty of care to get involved, are you expecting the OP to ask them if they refuse??
