Real-life MMD: Who should pay the parking fine?

  • As a mother, if my daughter was hard up and she got a fine for her poor choice of parking place I would help her pay the fine!
The circumstances of what or why are not important here, it's the who. A child and parent helping each other out because they can!
  • You chose to park there (and by the sounds of it, have parked there many times before), so I am afraid you have to foot the bill. In the future, maybe you will park more sensibly. Other people have said ask your mum she might help out - I sincerely hope that she doesn't or you won't have learnt your lesson!
  • Either save yourself £55 & pay it quickly if issued by the Council.
If it is issued by a private firm, you COULD chance it, as it is a civil debt and an 'invitation to pay'.
DVLA has recently removed many councils entitled to their database due to mis-use, so those councils will have to pay more for the name & address of the vehicle owner. If you don't reply, they may think the current owner has changed / moved away etc, ad they'll be throwing good money after bad, but if you reply, they know they have the right person & address etc & may oursue it further.
  • This may cause problems but take the fine off the cost of what your mum owes the builders. If they hadn't helped themselves & eaten what wasn't theirs you wouldn't have had to go to the shop in the first place.

They may think about their actions next time before they 'steal' what doesn't belong to them. If they want biscuits they should bring their own.
  • No question - you should. Nobody asked you to park illegally. It's your own fault.

Its a good idea if you want to spend xmas with no roof or kitchen full of rubble:mad:

  • Well it's not your mum's fault you got a ticket.

But you never know when you mention it to her she may offer to pay half or the whole lot. Especially if she knows your financial situation.
  • It's a loading bay.

That means the space is reserved solely for vehicles unloading/loading goods at that point - not for anyone else casually parking there just because they can't be bothered to walk a few more yards. It's thoughtless people like you who compel legitimate carriers to park where they shouldn't have to, and thereby create traffic jams.

Don't deny that you knew this. Pay up, and it might make you a little more considerate to others next time.
  • You sound like you really resent doing that small thing for your mum, if you live at home what are you doing to need 3 jobs! As you are now 25 I trust you can read a parking sign and could have walked a few yards to avoid the ticket. may I politely suggest you man up and take responsibility for your own actions. Also, I'm sure that you are benefiting from the home improvements.
  • No dilemma here at all. You parked illegally. you pay the fine. End of.
