  • You should pay, rule breakers should always be prosecuted, not doing so is discrimination against those of us who do comply.

    You ARE joking, aren't you?

If you follow your logic, your mum should pay the fine and she should claim it back from the builders, as they were drinking her milk in their tea and eating her biscuits, which prompted her to ask you to cut into your busy schedule and pick some more up!
  • Your decision to park where you did, not your mums, therefore your fine!
  • You're living at home, benefiting from whatever work your mother is having done; builders always get tea and biscuits provided in this country, you knew you would have to make this stop yet didn't allow enough time to find a parking spot......are you old enough to drive?

She asked you to get milk and biscuits (which I am sure you use as well living at home)...not park in a loading bay. Grow up and pay up.

Thank goodness you didn't have an accident and right the car off on your way, Mummy would have faced a big bill!

Think of it as a learning experience. Because you have got away with it before you haven't learned that there are consequences for your actions.
I had loads of warnings for speed, because I was only marginally over the limit and pleasant to the officers.., but I didn't change my driving. Then they brought in cameras! One ticket changed my driving style.
At least you didn't get points on your licence and an insurance hike for the next five years.
It's a cheap (compared to injury) reminder to drive within the rules.

The moral of this story is - even when you're flustered and feel put upon, pay attention to where you park.
  • I don't think you should expect her to pay, because you did choose to park there. However, if I were in your mum's position and my daughter were in yours (financially and given the situation), I'd volunteer to pay the lion's share.

I agree with the consensus that it is your responsibility but it would be nice if your mum paid / paid half.

If you had to pay for parking then I think it is fair to have charged your mum, but not for the fine if you didn't pay. That's the rules when out on company business, for example.
Alternatively, if you had said "I won't have time to find a parking space and get the stuff" and your mum said "Just park in the loading bay. Chances are you'll be ok. I'll pay if you get a ticket." then of course your mum should pay.

Given that it is something that you have done in the past then I don't see how it was your mum's fault. Chances are it was something that would have happened sooner or later anyway. Chances are, now, that you won't park there again. So you're actually no worse off than you would have been, in the long run, anyway. And if your mum chooses to contribute then you're better off!
  • You pay the fine & learn to act more responsibly in future!
You've parked there loads of times in the past - you shouldn't have done! Lucky you haven't been fined before!
You live with your mum at 25, and need 3 jobs to pay off your debts already - what will your debts be like when you grow up & get your own home? How many jobs will you need then ? Who will you ask to pay your fines then ?
Your mum is comfortably off & can afford to maintain her (and your) home with builders, to keep a roof over your head - and I dont doubt she's subsidising you too - yet you're not prepared to help out by popping to the shop !
I think you are very selfish.
