You parked illegally, you pay the fine. Your Mum asked for you to pop to the shop not to block a loading area.
If I cut you out of my life I can guarantee you handed me the scissors
  • Everyone else here is wrong. You should demand your mother pay the fine. If she refuses, ask to be taken out of her will. After all, it won't be your fault when she dies, so why should your finances be affected?
  • As a mum myself I have to agree with everyone who says you should pay the fine yourself. You say that going to the shops was inconvenient because you didn't have much time, but come on, how many times has your mum done things for you without asking for anything in return? You even make it sound as if you were doing her a huge favour! You live at home, and living at home is worth a lot because I'm guessing you don't pay the full amount that it really costs to live there. Pay the fine and don't park there again!

How ridiculous these 'problems' are getting. Of course you should pay, your Mum didn't ask you to park illegally, and she's your Mum for goodness sake. How ungrateful.
  • You were the one who did the crime, so you pay the fine. Nobody likes parking restrictions, but they are a fact of life and you gamble with them at your own risk. Your mother was not to know you were going to park illegally and I am sure would have said not to go to the shop if there were no option. After all, we are only talking about a few biscuits here and for even a tenth of the fine, I would say go without for a day or two.

There is already guidance on this in employment rules, where you are liable for your own fines - parking, speeding etc. - even when on a business journey. If your company pays a penalty for you, it is a taxable benefit, because you are the one who chose to break the rules, not them. It's the same here.

Having said that, if she offers to help (and you shouldn't expect this or hint at it), then bite her hand off!
  • no wonder you still live at home at 25 if you class this as a dilema!!!!!!!

    It's your mum, fgs!

You parked in a place clearly marked that you shouldn't! Pay it yourself and grow up.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)
  • Are you for real? you were daft enough to park in a loading bay, so you should pay the fine!. I wouldn't dream of asking my Mum to pay if i was in your situation, some people...

Just what I was thinking! I would guess this fine is only a small part of all the financial advantages you gain from still living at home which must contribute towards your being able to run a car. Time perhaps to spread your wings and move into the big, bad world where you will have to take full responsibility for your actions.

I agree that the asker should pay the fine (as long as their mum didn't tell them to park there, which I doubt as they surely would have said), but can we knock it off with all the 'oh you're so lucky to live with your mother, how ungrateful'? You have absolutely no idea what their situation is. You have no idea how much they pay for, how much of the housework they do, how much caring they might do, you really don't. And it's perfectly possible for this person to be the sort of person who tries to weasel their way out of paying a fine and also not have a comfy, happy living situation with mummy dearest doing everything for them. Be reasonable.
