Hi purple
I guess it's all about prioritising what's needs / wants (yup, that one again!) - I'm pretty terrible at it (grocery bill has been climbing again- honestly £58 today and there wasn't anything in there that really shouldn't have been).
When I did my big debt clearance, I had to cut down on loads of stuff - going out, cinema, drinks, take-a-ways etc ... yup, I did them all!:o
Take-a-ways went from every Fridayto Payday:) .... and, you know what .... I actually enjoyed it more and really appreciated it as it was a "proper treat" rather than something that happened routinely .... could you try something like that with the wine? (none during the week but allowed at the weekend as a treat?)
Have you got much planned for Easter?Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000

Good morning diary,
Didn't get chance to update yesterday, I just don't know where the time's going!
So update time.
Savings pots spreadsheets are up to date.
Discovered an old account (thats 4 now!) so have applied for online banking for it.
BC has gone up again due to purchases over the weekend but not by very much.
£20 overpayment on the BC has now shown up on the account, this has reduced the minimum payment for next month
I've had an AFD last night and aiming for a few more this week.
Visiting DH's side of the family Sunday-Monday, so will buy SiL a bottle of wine and some flowers as we're staying overnight at hers.
This old savings account is with HSBC and I've not used it since 2008. I think I will use it as another savings pot, but unsure of what to save it for? I'm thinking maybe as an overpayments pot for the credit cards? I don't think the interest on it is huge but could be used as a holding place until I have a fair amount built up and then transfer it over to the current account and then make the overpayments??
Have given up with the Savings challenges but I am still running themI just don't seem to have the time to save them, every month at the moment I'm using the 20p's, £2's and 50p's.
May be next year, once I have the pots built up and the smallish bills paid in full, it'll give me some breathing space to save them.
Thinking about Easter and still trying to get some ideas of what I can do with the kids..weather permitting of course!
Off to see my friend and his wife tomorrow, its been ages since I've managed to get to see them, life is getting in the way again. It'll be nice to catch up with them all the same.
Right off to work I go, one day down and two left to go and then it's Half Term. x0 -
Okay, feel free to slap my wrists; I know I've been neglecting my diary and to be truthful I was hiding
So the first week of the Easter holidays is nearly finished with, to be honest I'll be happy when they go back to school.
Time to stop procrastinating and get to the level.
First the good news:
I managed to get all the spreadsheets up to date, including the Current Account one
My security stuff came through for the internet banking with HSBCalthough no money was in that account
All housework is reasonably up to date, just got a few things left to sort.
DH has sorted his expenses for next month £393.50:)
Now the bad news:
My car tyre had a flat yesterday due to a screw on the road when I was parking...£55.08 for a new tyre
When sorting out the spreadsheets, it turns out that this past few weeks we've spent £83.70 at the pub and a whopping £550.89 in Tesco's :mad: and its 10 days away from Pay Day and we will still need bits in between.
Granted part of the Tesco's spends is the big monthly shop but !!!!!! we're going to be well over £600 and is the biggest we've spent there in one month to date!
Oh and the BC has gone up again due to more things being purchased...but I'm trying not to think about that one yet until the VC has disappeared.
I'm so annoyed with me/us...we were doing reasonably well at the beginning of the year but to find out that we aren't doing as well as we could is a blow
No NSD or AFD have been achieved this week, mainly due to the kids being off and trying to keep them entertained
I've got to do something and get it done quickly or we will be in an even worse position.
Sorry, I'm going to go cry now and figure out what to do next month...back later x0 -
Good afternoon diary,
What a mess I was this morning, however, I have pulled myself together now and I promise I won't let things get to me again as it doesn't get me anywhere does it?
All I can do is improve on this and make sure that we are back on track next month.
Moving forward, I have pledged 10 NSD's and 10 AFD's for April. Looking back on the days I didn't drink I did feel better. Just need to crack the NSD's now.
As I had a bad 'month' the overpayments I made to the CC's just didn't work and would have been better kept in the current account. Therefore, when DH has been paid and for the time being I intend to make the minimum payment to the BC and slightly overpay the VC.
Once the kids go back to school, my cleaning job restarts, so that'll help.
Have been to Sainsbury's with the kids this morning and spent £43. I bought what we needed and nothing more, so I guess I can class today as my first NSD
Right better get on and sort things out.0 -

Don't cry and get upset we all have up's and down's xxx0 -
Woo Hoo it's Saturday and the sun is shining here :j
Yesterday was a bad day for me so I've drawn a line underneith it and have woken up with renewed enthusiasm to sort this mess out.
I have got £28.50 in my purse and £5 in one money box and approx £5 in my 20p pot. I need to make this last.
Yesterday, I worked out the meal plan for next week and there are a few things I need to get from Tesco's to put towards the meals but not much.
I'm going to go through the freezer this morning and see what we've got, there's no point in me having this meal plan for next week if I discover we don't have all the bits and have to go back to Tesco's for more. It may also help with what to decide to cook this weekend too
I think alot of the problem this time has been sheer laziness, unable to decide what to make for dinner so nip to Tesco's and buy something rather than use the freezer stuff. Don't know what to do with the rest of the day so we'll go to the pub, I could go on but I'm boring myself.
DH has gone into work this morning but as he's management he doesn't get paid overtime; which is a bit of a drag, its a pain for him as it is to get this particular job finished then he can move to another site. Chances are he'll be on site tomorrow morning too.
The goodish news is that we both have changed mobile phone providers and are on rolling one month contracts now and we finally got rid of Vodafone, saving us £50 a month. Once we get April out of the way, the financial side should settle down on this aspect.
Have been thinking about my demi-john, I have been saving it towards Christmas and as much as I don't want to use it, I'm thinking that may be I should count it up and put it in the bank?
I have warned the kids that next week we won't be doing very much due to lack of money. I hate having to do that, they should get everything they want, not be restricted by lack of money
9 day until Pay Day and counting!0 -
Nice to see you back happier
