Purchased one of these recently. Cost £50 but allows you to get Buy one get one free meals (many up to 3 courses) at over 100 establishments in Northern Ireland.

Thought I would start this thread to share experiences and as a record of savings I have made. I t says in guide that I got that majority of establishments will not scratch back of card but if they do you can not use it again in that restaurant. So far 3 places have scratched 2 haven't.

This is my experience so far:

26 March Whites Tavern Saving £4.95 Didn't Scratch
27 March Northern Whig Saving £7.95 Didn't Scratch
2 April Dirty Duck Saving £12.00 Did Scratch
4 April Apartment Saving £7.95 Did Scratch
20 April Ryan's Grill Bar Saving £8.95 Did Scratch

Total savings to date £41.80. So it has nearly paid for itself already and runs until March 2008.

Here is link for more details http://www.hi-life.co.uk/jp/

Would be glad to hear of others thoughts and experiences.

Hi jmcateer, had seen info on this before but the website is so bad it's hard to see what is on offer - tho they def have a really good range of restaurants.

From what you're saying it seems that you can only use the card once in some of the restaurants? Doesn't say this on the website that I can see anyway...

Presumably too it's just saving the cost of one main course, does it apply to starters/desserts? Can't imagine it would apply to wine :) Also I'd like to know before I buy the proportion of offers available at weekends since I try not to eat out during the week.

It worries me that they have so little info about any of this and makes me think I won't like the answers I get. Do you know anything about it?

PS love the FAQs where you have to guess what the questions are from the answers they provide :)

    Re above.

I agree website didn't say that card can only be used once. This was a "surprise" to me once I had purchased.

But on the other hand once purchased I discovered that most restaurants give the offer on starters and deserts as well which is good.

Each restaurant has their own terms and conditions re weekends. Most allow Friday but majority don't allow Saturday. Not all in website are listed in book so I don't know about these. New restaurants are joining.

Only a few have offers on drinks.

If there are any particular restaurants you want to know about let me know and I will advise where I can.

Careful - IE doesn't displays a lock icon on the status bar. Maybe not secure.

I use the Hi-Life card in Yorkshire and this is what has happened to me and 2 other family members.

We have had a free 2 month trial through collecting vouchers in a local paper then at the end of it we were offered the card for £10 off the usual price - so think it was £39.95 instead of £49.95. We refused this and a few weeks later a letter was sent to us offering the card for £19.99 for 12 months. Better still it was the beginning of the month when we rang to accept this offer and the rest of that month was included for free, so got nearly 13 months for £20!

Most of the offers here are for upto 3 courses and basically work out bogof. Quite a lot do seem to say you can't use them on a weekend but if you get the card cheap using it once or twice will be enough to get your money back. You also get to go to places you wouldn't have known about before - i am very glad i joined and would recommend it from what i have experienced.

Not strictly transferable. It has your name printed on it and you are supposed to sign it but I never have and no restaurant has ever challenged me or asked me to sign.

If I had have thought I would have ordered it in my wifes name as she tends to lunch out more with her girly fiends- obviously can't hand in card with Mr McAteer on it
