I don't think anyone has said they "refuse to commit ever", but rather that they are quite content as they are?

Perhaps you have not met such people because they choose not to associate with you? I doubt anyone would want to be friends with someone that feels "sad" for them! :p
I have friends who have never found the right person for them to live with. I have no doubt they are content. And I know that they weren't lifelong virgins either. But I also know that they wished they had that special person.
I know of one who never committed by choice; he used to be happy; as he has got older the spark in his personality seems to have gone and I am not sure I would say he is happy.
Maybe my friends are a little bit more honest than average.

One of my grandmothers admitted after her husband died that her marriage had been pretty miserable, she couldn't stand her husband and felt mostly relief at his death (nobody was actually surprised.)

Maybe she was more honest than most coupled-up people?

Or maybe, just maybe, everybody is different and different things make us all happy? Maybe, possibly, you haven't found the only possible formula for a happy and fulfilled life?
