why cant my brother commit?

My brother is late 40's lives alone in rented accom and has never married or lived with anyone?

He has had girlfriends but they all finish when he wont commit to them? One girlfreind he has for 7 years but that finished and all others have followed the same theme.

what makes people scared to settle down?

We're all different, if hasn't found anyone that he wants to marry then that's the way it is.

He was with someone for 7 years, that sounds quite committed.
  • He's still young, better to find the right person than just anyone.

Because like many he refuses to be rail roaded into the ideology that for life to be perfect you must get married, buy a house & have 2.4 children.

Maybe he just doesn't want to marry or live with anyone! Is he happy? Surely that's the important thing.

While I love the though of getting married and having kids, I also know that not everyone feels the same.

If he is happy being single, living where he is and doing what he is doing then why does it bother you?!

You might think he is scared to settle down when really he is happy as larry living life the way that HE wants.

Maybe marriage isnt important to some people. To some people, a mortgage, children or whatever is enough of a commitment.

Personally, if i was single (which i'm not) i'd be in no rush to get married again but i'd like to think that i would be important enough to some man for him to want to marry me.

Is your brother happy / content ?

If so, is there a "problem" ?
  • I've never married or lived with anyone 'in that way' and I'm in my 40s. Because nobody has ever asked me. Is that a problem? I have a job I like, a family I get on with including nephews I'm very fond of, and plenty of friends. I'd be mightily miffed if anyone thought I was a failure (or indeed lonely) because I'm not married.

Thinking of getting married gives me the heebeejeebies! I'm happily and contentedly single and plan on staying this way for a long time. Maybe your brother is the same? At least he's not getting married and divorced as and when it suits. Has he got any kids? By the sounds of the first post he doesn't have kids, so he's not doing anything wrong. As long as he's happy, you should be happy for him. Just because he's different doesn't mean he's wrong.

Perhaps he simply hasn't met the right person yet? Surely it's better to be happy on your own then unhappy with someone else simply because society thinks that you ought to be 'settled' by a certain age?
