  • I got to my local store at 8.15am to be told they'd all gone at 7am! Apparently people were queuing from 10.30pm last night so they opened the store early for them! I have to say, I didn't want one *that* badly!

If (like me - the OP) you weren't lucky enough to get one of these lovely bags (and it's my birthday today too!), then you can enter a competition on Sainsbury's website to win one of 5 bags:

    http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shoppingandservices/Clothinghomeware/anya_hindmarch_bag_competition.htm

Should I really be passing this on as it will reduce my chance of winning?
  • it's a BAG.

i can understand why people want one, it looks nice.

but queuing at 2am, shouting at staff, getting little kids so worked up about it that they cry when they can't get one...it just seems ridiculous to me.

if it was something amazingly-beautiful-one-of-a-kind-i'd-die-without-it i would understand. but it seems to me that people just want it because others want it.

i don't see anything wrong with selling it for £200+ on ebay..if the charity cared so much about the environment they'd provide enough bags so that this kind of thing wouldn't happen. instead, they've made it into such a big deal that the very point of using the bag in the first place has pretty much been forgotten by most people.

(also, if someone's got so little sense that they will pay that much money for a canvas bag, they deserve to be ripped off.)

sorry if that causes offence to anyone. i'm happy that the people here who wanted to get one did manage to get it...but i just can't see why it's such a huge deal.

my sentiments exactly ! well said

... what I found really funny was the poor souls who turned up to the bad news that they were too late...

Interesting stance. I wonder how many people wanted the bag purely because other people would be envious?
Congratulations to all those who made the effort and got one. Once it's yours I don't think it's a concern of ours whether you use it for shopping, use it to show off or sell it on Ebay.
    Can I help?

    Well first post and I'm a man ( :A )

My local Crystal Palace (South London) Sainsbury's handled the whole thing really well.

I got down there about 6:40 because the wife wanted a bag. There were six people already there. There was a manager there who had her mum in the queue (fair enough to me) and she basically kept counting the queue until it got to 30 people which was about 7:30. The store opens at 8am anyway and quite a few staff who start work at 8 were told they weren't allowed to queue or get a bag.

We were given tickets around 7:55 which I think is fair. And then we all trolleyed into customer services at 8 for the bags.

Good atmosphere, no shoving or shouting and the staff did really well.

I didnt find it amusing that they were too late, you have edited my post incorrectly, the explanation is in the full post. Wouldnt want to be misunderstood or made out to be cruel/smug........although I am chuffed that my journey this morning wasnt in vain.

ps. Im using mine because I like it, not to sell it, or to make anyone envious, simply, to reduce the amount of plastic carrier bags I use, as per principle. x
