  • Hi fellow savers!

Not quite the end of the month yet, but been paid and all bills settled, so I've done my figures early. Quite a shock though, to see how expensive January has been; bills from Christmas, no.2 son's 18th birthday (and party at ours), plus £400 repairs on the car, and £800 for no.1 son's university accommodation. Also annual tv licence and council tax backdated to September (although I'd put cash aside for these). Fortunately on the plus side I received £420 interest from an old investment....and £2.70 win on Euromillions!

So £600 scraped together to go into my new Coventry BS ISA. Hope to do better next month!

Thought people would like a cheese update! Yesterday at breakfast I was laughing. OH asked what I was laughing at, I replied that I was remembering the Aldi shop with £31. I started laughing again and she said what is it now. I said I was laughing at the bit when she said that she only had 2 packets of cheese in the fridge when she really had 5 packets. She banged her fist on the table and shouted (exact words) 'I dare you to find five packets of cheese in that fridge!' I walked over to the fridge, took out the cheese and rather dramatically counted out five packets of cheese in front of her. She looked at the packets, pointed to one and said 'that one doesn't count'. I asked her why and she said 'because it is wrapped in cling film!' Okay I can sort of understand that logic. I asked her about the four remaining packets. She pointed to the cheese with cranberries in it and said that that didn't count either. When I asked why, she said (and this is the gods honest truth) 'It doesn't count because I'm not going to eat it!' I honestly give up!

What gets me is I'm not allowed to throw the cheese away or give it to the neighbours because I will be wasting it apparently. So it sits there in the fridge, mocking me every time I open the door.

What I forgot to mention is that OH went shopping on the sly yesterday while I was at our daughters house. She bought all the things she wasn't allowed in Aldi but at the Co op instead. On the bright side, I have upped the food budget to £200 next month, which hopefully she will find easier to cope with. Watch this space!

  • Morning everyone, I rang LA F*tness gym today to complain about paying more for my gym membership than new members.

I managed to get £273 off my annual subscription just by a phone call. That's £273 straight into the pot. :)

Anyone who is similarly ripped off, call their membership services line. PM me if you need details.

Your posts are absolutely hysterical! Can't help but love your OH even if she goes OTT with cheese :D:rotfl:!!!!!

I had a bumper savings month this month, but that will taper off over the year as I plan on overpaying on my mortgage. Also, my DH is bellyaching for a new car! Trust him to put a spanner in the works !

  • Only managed to save £300 this month because I'm paying off a holiday. I can't be too disappointed though, without the Holiday I would have saved £800-£900.

I won't be able to start saving properly until June, hopefully I won't be playing catch up too much.
