Woud like to join in with this challenge please.
2013 finds us in a similar position to last year i.e. no debts (although do have an arranged overdraught which is sometimes used) but with little savings.
Unfortunately there is no way will be able to do the full amount but would like to try for £3000 Am eager to get started and will be opening an account as soon as they are open after the New Year and making a first deposit. Thanks for having me along.

  • Hi everybody

I'm new to the MSE forums and have decided to join this challenge aiming to save £13,000 in 2013 (already registered #69).

This year (2012) I managed to save £9,000 and want to really push myself to save £13,000 this year. I am saving for a house deposit and will be a first time buyer.

I am lucky enough to be in a full time professional job and still living at home with parents, so am in the position where I can save a good percentage of my wage.

Each month my net income after tax, national insurance, pension and student loan repayments is £1366.
    My outgoings are as follows:

    £200 rent to parents
around £60 direct debits each month for bills (phone, contact lenses)

I have set up a standing order for £850 per month to go directly into my savings and £50 a month to go into a separate account which will hopefully pay for a summer holiday for myself.

This leaves me with a total of £200 "spending money" each month that I am determined to stick to.

By saving £850 each month I will have a total of £10,200 automatically saved by the end of the year. In order to reach my £13,000 target I therefore need to find an extra £2800, which I plan to come up with by:
-extra earnings online via review/survey sites etc.
-any money given to me as gifts e.g. birthday/Christmas
-I have a sealed money box that I throw any spare £1 coins in to, and also one that I put silver/bronze coins into
-by selling unwanted items on eBay
-any money leftover from my £200 "spending money" each month

I will look forward to posting on the forum as I really think it will help keep me motivated. Good luck to everyone else taking part in the challenge!

    Hi 2012Saver

This is similar to my plan with the extra money, :D I think it will work, I just need to stay motivated, I do tend to lose my motivation where selling is concerned, and spend far more on eBay than I earn :-)

    Here's to a profitable 2013:beer:

  • Hi

I would love to join this challenge please.

This is the first year I could possibly contemplate saving ANYTHING so I would be over the moon to have £2000 in the bank by the end of the 2013. I cant remember when I have even had £200 as savings so although I am a long way off your targets, it is a mountain of a challenge to me.
    VR repayment  £404  £156.02 PAID
    Airpods repayment £249 £185 £75.90 PAID
    Airpods repayment £144 £99.01 PAID

Right have completed all my banking for 2013 and final total saved so far is £15,250 :D

Am pleased although had been aiming for more, still we did have a lovely and costly holiday which was much needed.

Can't wait to start saving for 2013 - shame I have to wait three weeks for payday...

    Happy new year everyone!
