I've got money waiting (til 1st Jan) to go into a 'new' account to get me started and it's burning a hole in my pocket! Can't usually say that about saving
Have re-allocated some existing accounts to fit this year's plans and get better organised, and am feeling all eager-beaver, long may it last :j

I agree with this. I found from the 2012 challenge that even although my target was a lot less than others, I was still motivated to hit it. I kind of forgot what others were aiming for along the way as I was so focussing on my own amount. I looked forward to declaring my total at the end of each month and I love the spreadsheet slowlyfading has set up. Everyone is welcome and no amount is too small.Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
Mortgage today = £161,690.76
300 271 payments to go.House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000

I'd like to have a go at this too please.
For 2013, I'd like to save enough for a short (and cheap) holiday away somewhere, to renew my rugby season ticket that I had given up hope of being able to afford for next season, and then any remainder to go towards my 'buy a property' fund.
Please put me down for a total of £4500 for the year.0 -
I'm thinking the same, a small savings group would be better for me, seeing all these big amounts is a little daunting/demotivating, even though I know my circumstances are different.
Hi LL, anything we save is better than nowt. I have set myself my biggest target yet and am feeling very daunted by it, thinkingI will never get to it. But I am keeping it as it is just to give myself the motivation.
Up to a few years ago I was up to my ears in debt and via this website and joining various challenges I am now debt free. I look back and can't believe the changes I have made. Yet I still beat myself up about having no real savings 'at my age' and then get in a panic about the future, about being a failure financially (whatever that means). For me this year the idea is to do the best that I can do and if I fall a little short, so what, we are all here to support each other. Best of luck with this challenge LL and please stay with us.0 -
I need to get myself organised over the next few days and look and see what money needs moving around etc. Chatting to OH who would normally rather run a mile than talk about our finances (he leaves it all to me, bless him) but I told him I was doing this challenge and had set a pretty large target (we have never saved this much) and he said why don't I aim to put in £2013 into the savings each month while I have this temp job at least; and if it becomes permanent than we keep doing that. So that's the plan. We basically lived off his wage last year anyhow and know we can do it if we try.
Hoping for some money back from my self-assessment at some point over the next few weeks. Will be chasing the accountants up in the new year as last year they had my info for months and forgot about it until I rang them asking what was happening.0 -
Hi, can I join too please? I would like to save 8k0

Hello All,
Following on from last year I would like to sign up again.
I'm going to up my target from last year - going to attempt £20k from the start in 2013.
Bit of a step up from last year but I had a pay rise a couple of months ago so if I divert that to the fund then hopefully that will help some of the step up to get there - if I don't get used to it then I won't miss not spending it!
Having said all this I could be buying a house this year and if so then the target will go out the window, haha!
From doing the 2012 challenge, quite a few people fall away and don't update after the first couple of months but if you can afford to stick with it, then I can definitely recommend contributing to the thread and reading about other people's efforts, it really helped me with the saving... good luck everyone!!!0
