    Hi,
Sorry to sound dopey but how do I get a number? I want to put it on my signature to motivate myself! Definitely got that 'new year, get organised, make plans' feeling.

Worked out last night how much money is in various pots and how much I owe to HMRC in Jan and July. Can't see much point worrying about interest rates on different accounts which I might put the money into, as the rates are all so low.Feels more important to put it into an account I can't access easily and therefore am less likely to filch it from when I really 'need' some money! Am thinking of a branch-based account in some far flung corner of Scotland :rotfl:

    Hi everybody,

Can I join in too please?

I can't do the whole 12K as I'm still paying off debts, and I also want to overpay the mortgage this year, but I realise I should have a back-up savings account.

So I'd like to set a target of saving 2013.00gbp (sorry no pound sign).

At the moment 20.13gbp doesn't sound achievable so this challenge could be slow going but I'll give it my best shot :D

Slowly fading - Can you increase my 2013 target goal to £8000 please. I've just done a review of my 2012 spending and a plan for 2013 budget, and decided I should be able to manage a higher savings target. So putting my goal up from £6000 to £8000. (My 2013 saver number is 57).

Tara - no spend days sound a great idea. I'm going to give that a try in January. Think I'll experiment with 2 no spend days a week and see how it goes.

Canucksfan - great that you're joining us from the 'pay off all your debts by christmas 2012' thread. Well done! Also congratulations for your new baby. Your lifestyle in Canada sounds far removed from mine in rainy Manchester UK. So I'm hoping you do get to make some of those exotic-sounding trips, and we hear about them in this thread as the year progresses.

Kerfuffle - Sounds like you've got a good plan, even if it is going to be tough going. Welcome to you and all others joining us in 2013.

Am I allowed to join with a really pathetic target of £1000? I'm chowing down on debt next year, but DH wants to start saving towards car stuff from the end of February, and I've set up a standing order to our savings account and figured it into the budget. I looked for a 'Small savings in 2013' challenge but couldn't see one. Am really looking forward to being personally debtfree mid-2014 and joining you all on that year's thread. Have you got room for a pygmy amongst giants or shall I wait till next year?

I'm thinking the same, a small savings group would be better for me, seeing all these big amounts is a little daunting/demotivating, even though I know my circumstances are different.

I need to think what I am actually saving the money for so it keeps me on track. I was just thinking of saving to pay more to the mortgage, as much as it is practical, its not fun.

I'll give a little bio of me, for those who don't know me.
I'm a single mum with a 5 year old son.£50000 +/- a few thousand (need to wait on my next statement to get full outstanding amount) £2500 on a cc which I am chasing up with my insurance company as they should have paid it. Student loans abt £5000 give or take. Recently started a permanent job, bought a new car , need to pay my dad back over the next year or so for the £2500 it cost.
So throughout all of that I'm aiming to save as well :)

Will update my signature when I get to a p.c.
I'm normally found on the frugal challenge, and snoop on the old style boards, just recently ventured out to the other boards.

Oh yeah, P.P.I. claims here I come!!!

Please don't be daunted by amounts on here - any savings in the current climate is amazing :D and you should be proud of yourself!

My target this year (which I still haven't decided on :o ) will be much lower than last year, but I'm enjoying the challenge, and seeing everyone getting on well makes me smile :)

  • Not long now my fellow MSE'rs, I've just transferred £250 to my nationwide regular saver. I think that may be all I can save for Jan. I'm over visiting family in Northampton til next Friday and we have quite a few outings planned so need to watch the cash when I return home. Have the grocery and diesel money put aside so shouldn't need much else.

Happy saving folks! And a very happy new year! Il see u all in 2013 :P
