Very productive money saving weekend so far!

Changed gas and lecy to a cheaper fixed deal, changed pet insurance provider getting a cheaper premium + when it comes through £55 cashback, another OP on my mortgage and car passed it's MOT :D

Hopefully car insurance will be cheaper this year as we have more NCB and one of us is 25yrs old now (think that's an age bracket insurers use)

Will update any savings put away on payday!
    Total Mortgage OP £61,000
    Outstanding Mortgage £27,971
    Emergency Fund £62,100
I AM NOW MORTGAGE NEUTRAL!!!! <<Sep-20>>

  • Lippy hitting 21 and then 22 insurance shot down, 25 is the next bracket for massive discounts! Being old does have its benefits sometimes :) not such a money saving weekend with £1,400 spent and more to come today, only positive is its coming from savings and not credit card!!

Have a look a post I made yday on millionaire challenge thread I'm away to be £20k in debt excluding mortgage so by end this year I'm going for £15,000 saved, £9,000 to be used for something along side the debt and il be back here next year to save £20,000 if I can to clear the debt by end 2014!! Got it all worked out and planned up until then, aslong as stick at current job it will all work out! Love this thread just a fair few posters gone quiet as we hit the home run for last 3 and a half months!!

Great to see the progress, especially with people starting to reach goals :D

I watch the thread and read most days, but go through long periods where there's nothing for me to report - I use this challenge for savings from the day job so it's fairly predictable, all the action for happens at the start of the month and then again at the end when the regular saver goes out, in between i'm twiddling my thumbs waiting.

Just been looking ahead and October isn't going to be brilliant but should see me past £10k, then need to get my head down and average around £1500 for November and December to see me home for the £13k. On the plus side if I include the '£2013 in 2013' challenge (which is my way of challenging myself to raise a bit of extra cash on the side), paying off loans etc. (which I decided to exclude from this challenge) then i'm over £22k for the year now and should hit £28k by the year's end. Just need to repeat the trick next year :D

Tara well done you aswel!!! Shows it is worth it to stick at challenges like this and can end up at £70k savings limits!! Any more thoughts on buying somewhere yet? Surely that's a big enough deposit now :D well done.

Thanks very much :D No houses on the horizon yet, I'll just keep saving until I find one that's good value :)

Well done to you also, and that's a good philosophy you have

Confession: I'm thinking of having some dental work done, it's pure vanity but it's something that's bothering me, and a nice smile does wonders for one's confidence.

It'll cost up to £2,000, though. And the thought of dipping into my savings kills me!!!!! :o

Tara: Then don't dip in to it, save up for it, it's easier on the mind :D set up a different pot for it and add to it here and there. With your amounts it'll be saved in no time :)
    £20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**

£100 banked so have reached my target :j (target wasn't as high as many on here but never the less savings are savings)
Will carry on saving though and see what the final total turns out to be.
    MARCH £62.38/250
  • Savings have taken an unexpected £1300 knock, but its due to paying a cost that I otherwise would have had to pay next year, so it will help my 2014 total. I'm still up on the initial 2K target that I set at the start of the year, and I estimate that I can potentially finish on £4400 saved, so going to change my target to £4000, which I would be delighted to achieve :).

    Tara,

I spent £6,500 on my teeth last year and it was the best money I ever spent. I had a car accident in South Africa some years ago with resultant problems with my gums. Now I have the most beautiful teeth and just love to flash them :D:D:D:D:D! I had mine done in Budapest and going there saved me some £12,000. Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you so go for it if it means a lot to you.:A!!

I agree with nat21luv. Set up a separate pot to save just for your teeth and add to both. That way you will save and get great teeth!

    All the best,

  • I also have plans for dental work but holding out until end of 2014 going to take paid holidays and get it done. I reckon I'd be over £2,000 but like last post says, smile/teeth one of first things people will notice!
