  • Hi everyone

number 95 here. I'm afraid i am going to have to bow out of this challenge which guts me but i need to focus my energy on debt busting as my priority :-(

I wish everyone on here the best for the remainder of the year and I hope I can come back and join in again once I am debt free

Perhaps you could still stay here and just update us on what debt you pay off. You're still saving money, just putting it in a debt account rather than a savings account. Might help you stay motivated.

    good luck

  • Hello everyone, I've not been much of a contributor this year but I'm still in the challenge, been on holiday for most of the month so didn't get a chance to update Julys numbers so am declaring £161.16 for the month, a pitiful amount really but I'm getting paid a lovely bonus at the end of August so its going to get me back on track for hitting £10k this year!

Hi everyone, well done to everyone who is still going. I've been absent lately because amazingly we were able to buy a house a year earlier than expected so have been real ly busy. We've also spent all our money and then some on the deposit and legal fees, oh and it's a fixer upper so I don't think we'll be able to save for a while... Anyway so I'm having to bow out too but hope to see you all in 2014 :)

I am definitely still here and still well on target. I realise my target is a lot smaller than most others but it is a huge amount to me. I am going into hospital for an operation on Wednesday so I am going to declare my total for August today. The August standing order hasn't left my account yet (leaves on 28th) but the money is there ready so I am happy to declare.

August savings: £343.69. This puts me at £3,353.69, 83.84% :)

Off to update form. I can't quite bring myself to update my signature until the funds are in my savings account :o
    Mortgage at 12/07/2022 = £175,000
    Mortgage today = £161,690.76
    300 271 payments to go.
    House buyout fund £21,000/£40,000

To those who are leaving us, good luck and we hope to see you next year.

Yay youngbusinessman, ScottishLassie and girlatplay, well done.

Special good luck to girlatplay for your op...hope all goes well and that you get better soon.

I'm also declaring for August, so that's £425.02. Off to update the spreadsheet. Didn't think I could save so much so I'm really pleased so far. This thread is keeping me on track.

    Lots of love to everyone

I'm declaring £ 984.17 for August and I've put the jumping man in my signature now on account of achieving the target I'd set for the year. I can't believe that I've done this by August. It makes all my scrimping and the hours of spreadsheet tracking finances feel like they've been really worthwhile.

Although I was pleased with what I saved last year (courtesy of the 2012 saving thread), I have ramped things up a notch this year as since January I have been recording everything - and I mean everything - that I've spent. I initially intended to do it for just a couple of months to get a better handle on where the money goes. But between phone app and spreadsheet I've got into the habit now and it certainly helps. It's quite rewarding when I'm doing well, and then when I have an overspend in one area it helps me to think about whether I'm going to try to offset it by saving elsewhere, or whether I can pull it back in the following month. So far I have saved more this year, even though I have had significantly less money coming in.

Youngbusinessman - great that you've a boost. You made me smile with the hats.

Cydney - what a great strategy to share - putting that extra bit to savings every day.

Susanne & lippy - great that you've reduced your mortgages. Enjoy your holiday Susanne.

Youngsaver - Sounds like you are doing so well. Good luck with the new job/scholarship.

Girlatplay - hope your op goes well and you have a good recovery.

All - I remember that August was a difficult month in last years thread with many feeling the toll of holiday expenses and finding it hard to keep focus on saving. So "WELL DONE" to all who are still with us and beavering away at saving or reducing debts!!!

I'm still her too, although £700 lighter than the beginning of the month. It hasn't been frivolously spent and hopefully in a few years will see me on the right path to earning a steady income :) So I don't think I will declare this month, I'll just keep my head down and update next month for sure :)
    £20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**

    Hello

£553.13 for August. Below my target again this month and not looking like I'll be back on track next month either, but still aiming for £7,300 by the end of the year :) and even if I don't get that I'll still be very happy with how I've done!

Well done snowgo!! I give you another :j

I hope your operation goes okay girlatplay. I had an operation on my foot in April and I find patience is key when it comes to recovery ;)

Such great amounts everybody - keep going! Off to update the spreadsheet.
