Reporting in for May's total of $500. It is a big drop from the last few months and that is due to entering the second half of my maternity leave. Under Canadian law, I am not allowed to earn anything while on Mat Leave, or else face repaying my Mat Pay back to them.
So, I am looking at living even more frugally, but still enjoying life with my family!
Well done everyone with your savings - what terrific totals!

Starting off the new month by dropping £662.81 into savings - an oddly specific amount, but it brings one savings account to a nice round number :) ... and also takes me past the halfway point in the challenge :D

Only downside is that i've just noticed that some time in the last couple of weeks the bank has dropped my ISA rate to 0.1% - thought I was supposed to get a letter warning me? Anyway, time to move it elsewhere :(

There's a fair bit more to come this month, but will probably not be until the last week or so - i'm remortgaging but don't know when the new payments will start so need to keep cash in current accounts to cover whatever payment goes out

    Hi All,

I've been slack at updating this thread again :o

April was bonus month, so managed to save £5,251 in the month - pretty much went straight into my ISA for year. Declaring £2,539 for May as well, meaning that my total for the year to date has now increased to £16,452. Surprised at how quickly that has added up this year so far - potentially could reach my target by the end of July which would be awesome. :)

Making sure that I am utilising my ISA allowances, though it's such a pain having to move the money around every year once the banks get rid of their intro allowances!

Keep it up everyone, whilst I may not contribute much to the thread outside of my monthly update, I do like to read through how people are getting on during the month.

£365 saved in May (front sheet updated); this is less than previous months due to paying for flights. By my calculations I only have £450 until I reach my goal. Which should be achieved this month. :T

  • Declaring £276 saved for May, which is fairly good for me :). Now at 57% of the year's target of £2000. Expect to have a good month in June, so can hopefully add another £400. I should be able to achieve about £3000 saved in 2013 by September, but then I move to London to start a full-time job at Canary Wharf, so saving, or even maintaining savings, may become difficult.

A big fat £0 again for me I'm afraid. Struggling a bit at the mo but hopefully it will even out sooner or later.

May update - £647.84 saved for May which has got me very close to the target. (Form updated!)

My sharesave scheme has matured today of which I have taken the shares and they are in a profit of about £2,000 at the moment. Have also started a new one up for the full amount per month.

With this in mind I will think about upping my target to either £5-6k.

You're all doing well, congrats :)

And to those who didn't save anything - we ended up at -£1,853.50 for the month

The reason for this is that we've just bought a house that needs work, so saving is currently 'on hold' (well, in reverse!)

Ah well, we're done with the big purchases and this month is the last time we'll be paying both rent and mortgage at the same time (timing issue meant we completed before our lease expired), so hopefully June will see us save a little amount, and then July will be back to normal.

Feeling a bit deflated at the moment...I've just found out that my dad has myeloma. He's 91 and in a bad way in hospital in London. I'm going to put the savings on hold this month so I can concentrate on helping him get through his chemo.

I will keep logging in to see how everyone's getting on
