  • Hi folks, I feel as if I am coming onto confession time:D :o. Having saved up over £13k since January I have decided to blow it on a holiday and a new (new to me) car. My current car has been back and forth to the garage four times over the last few weeks and its still not right so I traded it in (garage didn't seem worried that the engine management light is on).

Also, I have just been offered a permanent job at my work (I was only temp until the end of June before) so I am feeling that I can now afford to take a holiday this year as I had planned not to have one.

Soooo, my savings will be seriously depleted after all this!! It has been really great though to be able to buy the new(ish) car without having to take out a loan. I will repost once I see how much I have left after all this spending and probably set a new target if that's ok SF?
  • Allie you've done fantastically well to save so much, so can afford to ease back a bit, especially with a permament job on the horizon

I know nothing about cars, so to me, a reliable car that starts first time and will not leave me stranded alone is not a luxury, but very much a necessity. So you've just done a basic spend; enjoy it and don't feel guilty!

Well, managed to confine MOT and insurance to about £500, having budgeted £1k for it which is a big plus!

Moved £500 into my ISA, some of which was leftover from an old current account...

...I now have £11,500 in savings! Yay! :D

Final total for May is £1047, which brings me up to £6155.40 for the year so far. Happy with that as it was an expensive month; touch wood, June is looking a bit better on the savings front :)

Declaring only £500 for this month as it's my birthday coming up in two days, and I've been with my fiancee for six years on 15th June, so I'll be buying her a present and we'll be doing something.

    Getting there though :D

I was just thinking how lucky your fiancee is matttye, getting a present from you on your birthday, when I realised I had misread your post :rotfl: I'm sure she is very lucky anyway ;)

£2300 added to my total making me cross the £10,000 mark! Happy days! £300 of which went into my first direct Regular Saver!

Managed to squeeze out another £235.68 to add to a fixed savings bond to balance that account out and reinvest in a fixed bond for one year and create an even number! This takes my total for month to £2535.68. So tight it hurts this month but next month will have to pay balance on far east holiday which will seriously deplete my progress!

I must really stop buying nonsense off the internet after drinking wine!! The other day I had an email telling me I had a Russian Bride waiting for me!! :rotfl:

I sure as hell don't remember ordering that!!

    Hi all,

Grand total for me for this month is £155,61 of which £21.61 was interest earned on my Cash ISA. Not a good savings month for me, but mortgage looking healthier as I overpaid by R3,000 into that account this month.

Next month I will be saving again ..... (hopefully).

All the best, off to update the spreadsheet.

OMG, that is so funny. I have a habit of doing a monthly shop on my way home after going out for drinks after work. It always puzzles me how I manage to carry home 8 litres of milk on top of all the other useless stuff I buy. The irony is that we hardly drink milk...... :D!
