  • After reading about reclaiming bank charges i followed the letter route as advised by this site and eventually juts before christmas my bank offered me a settlement figure of £393 against £980 worth of charges.

Due to being short of cash and christmas round the corner i signed the acceptance form saying that i accepted the offer in full and final settlement of my claim!???

However they are now tring to add another charge and i now want to take them straight to court to recover the rest of my money?

Want some opinion on how you think i would fair?

In my mind its like me stealing someones car containing there kid/dog/goldfish and saying you can have the kid/dog/goldfish back if i keep the car, the car's still stolen though isnt it and the owner would have the right to reclaim it????
  • You will need to start another claim from the beginning and be aware they are likely to close your account on this occasion.

You can claim the new charges, but only them.

You can't claim for the rest of the charges from your previous claim. If you try this, I would say the bank will definately go to court with you. They have got a piece of paper signed by you that states you have agreed to settle the previous claim in 'full and final settlement'. This puts the bank in a very strong position, and doesn't give you much chance in court.

I received some money back from natwest, but have since got more charges (while the letter was still processing)
is it worth starting the whole process again and asking for these charges back again or do they only allow you to do this once?

    £190 claimed back from Natwest.

    £80 back from Barlcaycard

You can reclaim again, but there is a very good chance the bank will ask you to close your account this time.

  • Hello, last week I was given a refund of £275 for bank charges from last year, however I have just checked my statement for Jan 07 and they have charged me a further £75 in overdraft fee's.

Is there anything I can do about this ? My bank is HSBC. It seems a bit much to have to go through the entire process again and have to wait over 2 months for a resolution.

Can someone offer me some advice ? I have sent HSBC a secure message through my online banking and am awaiting a reply.

    Many thanks

Yeah, Change banks... Might not be useful, but even if you threaten to close your account in a branch, the manager will sort it out for you...

Whenever I get charged, I ask them for my details so I can transfer to another bank (I know i dont really need them) and I always get a satisfactory resoloution every time!!!

I have read a few comments on here about HSBC asking customers to sign a letter saying they will make no further claims.

If you have signed such an agreement, you will not be able to make any further claims, this is legally binding.
  • I made a claim last october, to get my money back for charges. I only got 6 months worth of charges back from the bank which came to about £500. I agreed to take the money, cos i have never been offered that kind of money before. Soi was just wondering could i try to recalim the rest of the charges back for the past 6 years? has anyone else tried this, any advise would be appreicated

Did you sign to say you agreed not to make further claims?
