  • Hi im new to the forum,

Just a quick question, i sent off letter to Abbey a wk ago using the sample letter on this site and enclosing my £10. Recieved a letter today stating the following:-

Thank you for contacting us and i am sorry that you have been so unhappy that you felt you must complain.

One of my team will be responsible for investigating your complaint and i have enlcosed our Complaints leaflet, which explains our procedure for doing this. High quality customer service is of great importance to us at Abbey and we will do everything we can to resolve your complaint in a timely and satisfactory manner.

I know it is important to you that we resolve your complaint quickly, but we want to complete a thorough investigation and sometimes this can take time. If we have not contacted you before then, we will write to you in four weeks to let you know what is happening.

If you have employed someone to handle your complaint on your behalf, please note: emplying a third party complaint handling firm, or a solicitor, or finacial advisor does not affect how we review your complaint. Please be aware:

Abbey does not charge you to investigate your complaint
Abbey will not be liabel for any costs incurred if you do decide to employ a third party to handle your complaint during this review
Abbey in general, will only make payment directly to the account holder(s) if your complaint is upheld and redress is due.

Although i do not know what the outcome will be, i do hope that we will be able to find a solution that you are happy with.

Is this just the standard delay tactics letter that they send what do i do now, just sit and wait?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

Hi tooniebabe, you are correct this is just a delay tactic letter, i recieved the same. All you have to so is wait the 40days as thats what the bank are allowed if you do not recieve any of what you have requested after the 40days send the a 2nd letter saying that have breached yours rights under the DPA and so if they do not reply within 7days you will report them to the Informaton Commissioner.

Dont forget to work with your timescale not the banks!!

    Hope this helps
    Good luck :)
  • Hello all, can anyone give me advise as to where i go from here!!

I too sent the first letter to Abbey on the 1st of March 2007, 3 weeks later got the above standard delay tactic letter. After 47 days still nothing, I telephone and complain and the following day I recieve only a years worth of statements, with a covering letter stating all the rest on microfisch etc etc will forward them as soon as they can. Ok i wait a further 10 days still nothing, I send the second letter (recorded delivery on the 21st April which was recieved on the 23rd) informing them they have 7 days or I will reort to the commissioner. Today Abbey send me the same one year staements:mad:

I phone and complain, they sat they have no record. I quote my recorded delivery letter reference number, and suddenly they do have a record. What the hell do I do next? who do I complain too and what address?

I really hate Abbey their a waste of space!!!!

    Hello,
You could send this. i sent mine off today recorded delivery!!! Just change the XXX to your details

    Re: Account Number: xxxxxxx

I am in receipt of the documents that you have supplied in response to my Data Protection Act Information request dated XXXXX (and received by your office on XXXXX via recorded delivery). The disclosure of personal data is incomplete in that at least the following documents are missing.

    1) You have failed to provide a complete list of transactions and charges for the period from xxxxx through to xxxxx

Accordingly, I have to tell you that you have not yet complied with your obligations under the Data Protection Act 1998.

The time for compliance with my request has now expired. If you do not comply fully with my Subject Access Request within 7 days, I shall apply to the County Court for an order to enforce compliance, together with damages at the discretion of the court. I will also be making an official complaint regarding this matter to the Information Commissioner and the FSA.

I look forward to your timely response

    HOPE THIS HELPS
    GOOD LUCK
LET US KNOW HOW YOU GET ON

    what next
Can someone help please... I downloaded the template for the initial bank charges letter and sent that off wth my £10 cheque, now 3 wks later my bank (Abbey) has only sent me 1yrs worth of statements and nothing else.... What do i do now????
  • Hi - this is the first time i've made a post to any forum, and would greatly appreciate any advice on my problem - I aplogise in advance if this has already been addressed but I couldn't find it anywhere.

I am with Abbey and currently attempting to get details of my bank charges. I have had the last 12 months in duplicate statements and then a summary from micro-fiche taking me back to Jan 04.

I got a letter from them on Monday GIVING me £300 - I have not even made a claim yet. They say in the letter that the £300 is a goodwill gesture - is this just a ploy to put me off?

On checking my account they have put the £300 directly in there - what should I do with it? My instinct tells me to move it out of there and keep hold of it to offset against my eventualy claim.

As I said - any help or words of wisdom/ecouragement welcome!

Thats exactly what they said to me, they sent me the last fourteen months worth of statements, however, i don't have any charges on these statements. I have been advised to write to them threatening to take them to the small claims court if they do not provide me with my statements for the last six years.
I'll let you know how i get on. In the meantime - if you have any progress, please do let me know.
    Thanks.

    Hi everyone,

Can you help me? I sent the 1st letter off to Abbey at the beginning of April, two days ago I received April 06 - April 07 bank statements. Does anybody know why they would only send 1 year instead of 6 years, if you do know how can I get the remaining 5 years?

phone them up and be nice to them stating you only got one years worth of statements, 9 out of 10 will order them for you there and then, i try to be nice, because i bet they get that many people on the phone arguing with them as more and more ppl are claiming their charges
a friendly voice once in a while will make them deal with you quicker
i only got 4 years worth and called to say i was missing some and i got a letter the following week telling me im now going to get a full list of charges instead of statements (although im with the halifax ) this should still give you an idea
  • Hi All, well I finally took the plunge and sent the first letter to Abbey, I received my reply back in the form of a graph.

The letter goes on to say "normally covering the last 14 months, will be sent out in form of indivudal statements, when I will expect to receive them, they enclose a summary of charges debited to my account, which covers all charges going back to January 2004. The summary records the number of charges, their description and the total in each calendar month. Any refunds and reversals of charges are also listed and the toals are given at the end of each column. Pleas enote that this list will not include details of any charges that we have written off. If your account was opened before January 2004 details of charges for this period will follow as soon as possible.

I have 2 accounts with Abbey and this was stated on the fist letter and they acknoledge that on the above letter a long with my 2 account numbers and they acknoledge receipt of your £10 fee, which they have cashed.

I then received a package through the post a few days later and it was only statements for one account from Feb 06 through to April 07 and it's for the account with no charges on, I have already gone through some statements for the other account that I have and it's already over £500 and I've only gone back 6 months! and I know I cannot claim for those charges that have been refunded.

I sent my first letter on 5th April, there letter is dated 1st May.

What do I do now !

Little confused as cannot figure out their graph system, is this them stalling and when should they send all the information I have requested. Sorry for the long speel but a confused bank charge reclaimer who's more than a little nervous.

    Thanking You All In Advance
If not for this forum I would not have had the nerve!
