Abbey statements

I've requested my statements for the last six year with abbey.
I finally recieved the statements. However, they have only sent me the last year. I'm
on the next steps I should take.
Abbey are releasing the details in stages. The last 12-14 months are being sent as statements and previous years as a table of charges and any refunds laid out neatly and easily readable. These are also being sent out in small batches apparently. Abbey have advised that they recently put in a new system to deal with high volumes of demand for these details to deal with them more efficiently. Be patient and you should receive the rest of your details pretty soon.

HI we have gone throught he process and now after three attempts the abbey have sent us the details but with three years of charges depleted from the statements, we have most of our statments from those years but a few are missing, how do we make them give us the genuine ones?
Thanks0 -
Hi there,
I've written to Abbey asking them to send me 6 years statements, I also included my £10 fee. However after 4 weeks I received just one years statements, no cover letter with any explaination, an no receipt re the £10 fee. I am about to write again to ask for the remaining staments, do I have to give Abbey a further 40 days to respond? Do I have to send a further £10. Is there a template anywhere for this kind of thing? Is this a standard stalling tactic that others have experienced?
Can't wait to hear your thoughts.

They do that, you'll get a letter in a couple of days saying you'll recieve those statements and that the others are on microfiche and will be sent in due course. Then you'll recieve nothing until the 40 days are up and you phone. Then they'll give you crap about they don't have to count the 40 days until your cheque clears (bollox). The same day they'll sent a letter with a list of charges back to 2004 and saying the rest will follow and you'll get you £10 back. A week later you'll phone them again and they'll say the "time frame for the others is 2 weeks"-the point I'm at with them now (w*&kers)0

Hi guys.... ok, so we've took the plunge to reclaim our charges. I sent Abbey a letter asking for ALL bank charges for the last 6 years.... they replied by saying that they could NOT go back that far and only keep 18 months on microfilm, for which they, again, have charged me £10 for. I know from reading these great posts in here that this may NOT be the case.... or is it?
Ok, I have statements going back about 4 years. The total is floating around £2,500 (ish), but I would expect it to be more like £4,500 come the end, exluding interest etc.
Are they telling the truth that they simply don't have my records? Or are they trying their hand slightly?
We would gratefully appreciate any help that you guys could give us.
Thank you for your time,

They tried something very similar with me although they told me this over the phone and this was regarding stuff over 6 years. Asked for them to put it in writing which left them slightly speechless. I found informing them that if they didn't comply fully with my request within the 40 day period I would seek the information via the County Court - hey presto - 2 days later a summary of 2004 charges landed on my doorstep!!! Giving them another week or so and then I'll be back on the phone to warn them their 40 days is almost up and I'm still waiting for 2001-2003...... They also told me that the 40 days doesn't start until they bank the fee and they have 40 days in which to do that - when i pointed out to them that this could potentially be 80 days  and that as they were a bank there would be no real reason why it should take them 40 days to take the fee she said "Oh yes, I see your point... doesn't make sense does it?" Abbey are slippery little critters - be firm, be persistent, of course be polite (un-nerves them a bit I think) and you should get what you've requested. Can't wait to ask them for the information from 1997-2001.....:D0 -
Thanks for your very useful comments!
I must admit, it seems very daunting taking on any bank, but the more I read on this fab site, the more that I'm inspired. I will NOT give up.
Ill try your tactic tommorow, as it worked for you.
Did you call the 0845 9724724 number, or have you found a more direct number?
Thank you so much

No problem. Taking on the Woolwich, Abbey & Capital One and out of them all the Abbey is the worst so far  . Yes I rang that number. When I told them about going to the County Court and asking the District Judge to make an order for the infomation they put me through to Customer Complaints (spent ages on hold whilst she put me in touch with a Complaints Handler - thought they'd cut me off!). She opened a complaint for me and told me they are allowed 8 weeks to investigate. Told her that was fine and whilst I did understand what a difficult position she must be in as an employee of the Abbey and it was nothing personal if I didn't get my stuff by 4th May I'd be off to court.
Remember to log all calls (time, date, who you speak to - FULL NAME if possible) and send anything via recorded delivery. The onus is then on them to prove it hasn't been delivered - not for you to prove it has. I've got all my stuff in a ringbinder to keep it together. Also remember to stick to YOUR timescales - not theirs. My mobile has reminders set on it for when I should be ringing to remind them or writing to them with the next letter in the process. The Consumer Action Group is also a really good site to look at. You have to become a member but it's free. I flit between the two and use the best bits from both with regard to the template letters.0
