  • Funny you should say that, but we have received our First Direct statements and they only show £175 - Im sure there were more than that going to cross refernece with the bank the payments were supposed to come out of.

Can you send them a copy of your statements along with a copy of yours to prove it?

This could be a new step in the merry dance - is there no level they will stoop to?

I did always wonder about this, not many people actually keep them especially 6 yrs worth. however if you dont keep them, there is always equifax who would give you a list of payment defaults as a bit of extra evidence maybe??

This might seem a bit obvious but I am theorising that the statements you receive usually start with a balance brought forward. The difference between that and the balance to carry forward at the end, barring all shown transactions, could safely be regarded to be the amount of charges 'not shown'. Compare a statement you have showing charges against one of theirs that doesnt and see if this is right ?

If so, it will give you a basis in which to calculate the omitted charges. :)

I have been advised by Abbey that my records are on their way and have 12 months previous actual statements to compare with so I can test my theory then myself. I hope I am right.
  • Please help

I have applied to Abbey for my bank charges, they sent me 1years worth of statements and told me that the rest were microfished and were not available, has any one else come across this same problem and if so how did you resolve it?

    Thanks
  • Sent letter on the 28th feb 2007 to Abbey requesting six years statements, got last years statements three weeks later. Heard nothing from them until I contacted them. They never contacted me. Spoke to customer complaints 3 times in one week, 26th march I was told I had 40 days from this date- tele operator would not put me on to her supervisor to complain. but she finally recognised my complaint with a complaint ref. number.

One month from my original letter no statements for previous years.

On the 30th march I was told it was going to final stage. complaint in checking.

on 5th april spoke to abbey -they admitted on failing on most stages on my complaint. They offered me 643 pounds I refused but it had been put into my account. No statements yet. They said they would reissue them. The team would sort the complaint out in 4 weeks.

On the 12 april still no statements. manage to get number of Chief Execs. office of abbey, they could'nt apologise enough- said they would deal with it from this level and would contact me by the end of the day. Guess what? they did'nt.

On 13th april day 44 no statements so contacted Ombudsman.

They sent chaser letter to abbey and they had a dead line of the 25th april.

No contact from abbey other than a letter to thank them for contacting them.
Guess what? No statements, other than another copy of there leaflet on how to complain.

Phoned chief execs office again and was told that the statements had never been sent out in the first place - only at micro fiche stage. So previous statements made by abbey employees were false and were just fobbing me off. Was told would have complaint looked at and a conclusion within next 15 days.

It is now the 18th april, No statements,no contact, and now on day 49.

any advice on what I should do next?

    thanks
  • Hi There,

Can some one please help me, I have sent off the first letter to Abbey National requesting my last 6 years worth of statements along with the £10 cheque, to which they have written back stating that my statements have been archived and that there is a charge of £5 per statement requested. This means it is going to cost me £360 pounds to receive my statements!! Can they do this?

I have sat & looked over this site & I can't find anyone else who seems to have had this response! What do I do next?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you in advance
  • did you send the SAR letter ? by law the most they can charge is £10.00? check the letters library to check you sent the correct letter.
