  • No I haven't change my account details for the last 16 years! I do have quite a lot of old statements going back a long time, shall I use them instead of waiting? Thanks for your reply Viv

Go to the Information Commissioner as suggested above.;)

I do not see the need to speak to the informationer commissioner yet. This route can be lengthy and should only be used when you are having real problems obtaining information. So far the bank seems to have been reasonable. Going in guns blazin with the information commissioner is a bit pointless at this stage as it will just delay matters. When a complaint goes to the commissioner, the bank have a period of time to respond as to why they have not fulfilled the request and the commissioner then considers this before deciding on action.

If the bank responded quickly and have so far been reasonable why not ring up the relevant number or speak to someone in the branch. There could be a reasonable explanation for the error and this may be a much quicker way of sorting this out.
  • Hello I am new to this forum so apologise if my message seems to go on and on!!!!
I wonder if anyone has had this problem with the Abbey National. I first contacted them requesting the past 6 years of bank statements in May 2007. I received most of the statements but there was about 2 years worth missing. I have made constant telephone calls, requested via their website and even requested those missing ones by completing a form that THEY sent to me ....... 1 year later and I have still not received these statements. They even came up with the excuse of telling me that the address they have on their system is not my present address even though they have been sending me correspondence (including 4 years out of the 6 years statements I originally requested!) to my present address for the past 7 years!!!!! They sent me a change of address form which I completed and returned thinking that this would resolve the problem and I would get my missing statements ..... still waiting! I have informed the Ombudsman and await to hear from them!!!

It just seems that the Abbey will do or say anything to buy time and are fobbing all their customers off with excuses etc. I finally spoke to someone at the Abbey National a couple of days ago who kindly explained what the problem was, corrected the problem, even called me back on my mobile abroad and has "re-ordered" my missing statements!!!! ..... and this guy was in the "Internet technical department"!!!!!! ...... I await to see if my statements are sent. Its been a year since I first requested statements so does that me that I cannot claim back the first year of the six or can I claim that it was the Abbey's fault for not sending me the full 6 years in the beginning?

My mum is claiming, after waiting 6-8 weeks she has a summary statement only which is totally incorrect. She has now got to write to them again requesting full statements. This service is appalling. I agree they are just stalling. Lets see what happens next!
  • Last year started the procedures on reclaiming bank charges estimated approx 2k in the last 6 years, filled in the template letter, requested 6 years bank statements, sent my £10.00 cheque . . . a few weeks later the cheeky beggers took my £10.00 told me they couldn help and no bank statements either!!!!. . .any ideas what to do next appreciate some direction????

    Hi,

I had exactly the same problem with Abbey in 2006. Have you given them 40 days to comply? If you haven't then send them a reminder that they have x days left to comply or you will commence a County Court action forcing them to comply.

If you would like copies of any of the letters I sent to Abbey, feel free to PM me.

I ended up going to Court and they complied immediately grrr.

As you can see from the above posts Abbey have always been the worst for actioning your statements and your best bet is as above and tell them you will be complaining to the ICO...

  • I requested my 5 years worth of bank statements about 3 months ago. I receieved a reply saying that it was being processed after a week of the request. However, since then I have not heard anything. What are my choices now? I recall reading I have a right to follow this up in a legal manner, I'm just not sure how to approach this exactly.

I require the statements for more than just a bank charge reclaim so it's severaly impeding me and would like to get this sorted asap. Any help appreciated.
