Will get on and start my diary this weekend at some stage, still busy busy meal planning and sorting at mo.

Remember ages ago egg money use to do a card you could pay into your own bank account with. Then you could use that to pay off card debt. Basically you have your Argos account to pay and can't use credit card. You take out a credit card with egg, transfer amount needed to pay argos into bank account Then use the credit card you have just had approved to pay egg what you owe leaving a £0 balance. An !!!! ache way of doing it but it worked for me with a loan I had bout 7years ago.

Now I know you can't get an egg money card anymore as they've been taken over, but you must still be able to get cards that let you transfer + balance into your own bank account free. Think they call it a mule card or something!?

Hello  Welcome! I was looking for your diary, let me know when you start so I can subscribe :)

You have almost took the words out of my mouth there! Virgin let me transfer some of my available balance to my debit card. 3% charge, most I can transfer is £430 just now. So, have applied for that to be transferred. Once done I will pay Argos card off using transferred money and my own cash. Then transfer full balance from virgin card to new BOS card, again at 3% fee. Cost will be £13 each transfer.

Just feel like a total idiot tbh. I could have made a payment the last 9 months, but no, I didn't :( honestly, what did I think was going to happen??

Still, onwards and upwards! Will plough all my energy into clearing the one credit card with all the debt on it. 18 months works out at about £170 a month to clear it before the 0% runs out, bring on the challenge!
Can't think of anything smart to put here...
  • Don't be to hard on our self. I wouldn't have even thought you couldn't just do a balance transfer on an Argos card. It appears to me that Argos want consumers to be stuck with them end of! It's ridiculous how hard some companies make it for people o just pay what they owe how they want.

The main thing now is that you've managed to get the payment sorted and poke Argos in the eye in the process by nit having to stay with them and pay the interest :T

Once I get my bum in gear will let you know what I've named the diary. Need to get all my budget set out proper to put a SOA. At the mo it's all written down in a way I understand but would confuse another person looking at it lol

    Morning Zepsgal,

You took the words out of my mouth. Just don't do what I have done in the past and forget to cancel off the old card and then in a moment of weakness, spend a load of money on it :mad:.

I have never had alot of luck with balance transfers. the new card always only gives me a really small credit limit so impossible to transfer over my HUGE credit debt. Guess it might be down to my not so great credit score :o.

Great to see you fighting to get it all sorted out though. Keep it going. Its when we lose the will to fight that we get into trouble.

    Afternoon Dairy!

Well, money has transferred from my virgin card to my bank account. Just off the phone with Argos, paid off the balance and cancelled the account!! :j:j:j

Currently on hold with Halifax to get through and cancel that credit card! :j:j

Need to now get the whole balance from the virgin card transferred to the new BOS visa, and I'm done!

In other news, small spend today. Bought a hair dye from Superdrug, buy one get two free. £5.99 for three, thats enough to last me for the next year :T

That's the Halifax credit card cancelled :j

I was a bit annoyed with the woman I spoke to though, was a bit cheeky to her (in a polite way though :rotfl:)

She said that they can give me 15 months interest free, so that I didn't need to cancel this card blah blah. I politely pointed out that I had called several times in the last few weeks to get a longer balance transfer, was always told no, nothing they could offer. Well tough, I found another provider giving me a longer period, so get that card cancelled :T

First part of the balance transfer is happening, ive transferred what was on the virgin card before I sent money to my debit card. Will recheck the virgin card over the weekend, see if it's updated and get the final transfer to the new card done.

Worked out that it's about £155.55 each month to pay it off before the 0% runs out :)

  • Sounds like you've had a productive day :j. Bet it feels good to be getting it all sorted and straight.

Well I've started the diary, called it 'keeping them debts at bay, budgets and tantrums'. Still sticking with the meal planning, so far so good

    Morning all!

Had a lovely day yesterday, took the dogs out for a long walk which turned out to be rather muddy :o luckily I had my Wellies on, the mud was up past my ankle at several point  Had to bath the two dogs when we got home, now I've got a full load of towels to wash :rotfl:

Made a nice lunch from my new 3 Good Things cookbook, roasted butternut squash with a sage butter and pasta, was delicious! Had a quick look through the book, it might turn out to be one of my favourite cook books, so many delicious recipes :T

Went to Mr T's last night to get coffee and a few other things. Got some reduced pork for dh, some nice chops and belly pork all portioned up and in the freezer. Also got about 600g of Parmesan for 15p :j Bag of Brussel sprouts for 10p, weighed them when I got in, just over 900g! Had to spend 20 mins peeling them and sorting them into portions for the freezer, but it was a good bargain :)

Heading off to idea today to spend my £20 voucher I got when buying our Christmas tree. Going to get some fabric and cushion pads I think, means I can make some birthday presents for free :T

Money still not transferred onto the new credit card yet. Hope it's done for Monday so I can sort out the final balance transfer and get my virgin card cancelled. Then I can make a payment to the new card and start seeing the balance come down!

DH's sister has bought us a night away at a fancy hotel for our wedding anniversary in September :T going to start putting some money by so we can go out for a nice dinner when we are there. Maybe £20 a month, that would give us £180 to spend which sounds like a lot but the place is rather fancy. We have already said we won't be having a holiday this year at all, so this will be the only break we get. Or we could go to the local chip shop and spend £10 :o

  • Morning Zepsgal.

I am really jealous. I love cookbooks and the new Hugh one sounds great. have been watching the 3 Good Things on the telly.

You have been so busy with all the balance transfers. Well done with it all. Isn't it typical that they want to offer you a good deal just when you have given up and are closing the account.

How lovely that your SIL bought you that weekend away. Wow I wish someone would do that for me. Definately try and save up for a special meal. Would be a shame to have to have chips :o.

I am hoping I get The Sun deals priority letter so maybe me and the kiddies can go away for a weekend in Easter. Think its our only chance to get away this year.

    Have a good Sunday xx
