Not dieting, not counting calories/carbs etc...just eating healthily. Anyone else?

  • Hello, I'd also like to join in pls. Very much minded that you don't 'diet' but you change the way you eat forever. I'm currently around 12.7 st; not unpleased as I was 16st 2 yrs ago. My aim is to get down to around 9 which I think is realistic for me (5.2 & small build). I'm veggie (which helps). Exercise a bit tricky, but will try to venture out to the pool.

No need for a gym membership. Start walking when you have a spare half hour. Even 15 or 20 minutes will do to begin with. Try to walk at a steady pace to get your heartbeat up a little bit. I walk at least 4 miles every day, although it's easier for me as I have to take the dog out for walkies.

There are also lots of free podcast exercise videos on iTunes which you can download to pc/laptop and use at home when you have a bit of spare time. The trick is to do as much as you can. This is no competition, we will just encourage each other to live healthily.

Oh, and I've enrolled in a nutritionist course, so soon I might be able to help more :)

I'm sort of doing this 'plan' for healthy eating. I'm still using myfitnesspal to keep track of what I eat, I'm just pretty much ignoring the calories and instead am focusing on the nutrient section more. It takes a lot of food to make me feel full and hungry, I hate salads without lots of creamy dressing, and soup just won't do. I've been stuffing myself with all of the low calorie, nutrient dense foods I want first (like green beans or broccoli), then eating the starches and meats last. Means I get as much actual food as I want, I get more fibre, I definitely get my 5 a day, and it's more nutritionally sound.

I just started doing this on 27 Dec, but I'm already down 6 pounds. I'm quite large though, so I know it will probably come off quick to begin with, then begin to taper off.

I've also given myself the challenge of doing a 365 days of exercise. Any exercise, any intensity, just so long as it's a minimum of 10 minutes per day. DH and I are working on making my new-to-me bike road worthy. Once it is, I'll be working on building up my endurance for bike riding. :)

    Hi all :)
Its lovely to see that others have joined this thread too, welcome to you all.

MasterPoo- i love carrot and lentil soup. The recipe doesnt call for chilli, but i love to add a bit of that too..YUM!!

Mousey-you have done really well by losing that amount of weight so far, well done you :)

Trolley-i agree with the walking. I used to walk miles, but then moved house and now i dont know any of the local walks. I think i need to investigate :)

Mrs TM- well done on losing that weight. I hadnt thought of eating veg forst, then the rest of the meal. Your exercise plan sounds really good. I tend to only get exercise mon-fri, walking my son to school.

Surfsister-thanks for that. I am not one to do 'diet shakes' of things like that...just sensible healthy eating, portion control and common sense really.

I cant remember if i told you what weight i am aiming for? Ultimately i am aiming for 10st. I am making mini goals that are as easy to reach as possible, to keep me motivated.
So i am working on 2-3lbs a month. i am only weighing once a month, so i will next weigh on 19th Jan.

I have to say this is definately the best way to lose weight and get fitter.

When im at uni i usually walk atleast 30-40 mins a day simply getting to and fro, force myself not to buy crap at the shop for lunch, il take a wrap in or if im at home have a tin of soup.
We also eat very healthy cooked from scratch teas and never eat too many starchy carbs.
Being home over the xmas period meant i gained half a stone (doesnt sound like much but im only 5ft).

I've managed to rope in some of my girlfriends into submitting a daily diary to a group chat via whatsapp, some are already making excuses (it's only the 4th Dec!!!) but others are making good progress!

I eat healthily 80% of the time and when I feel like I'm falling of track I start keeping a diary! Seeing it there in black and white forces me not to cheat!

Exercising has been good this week, still working on upping it further, I'm aiming to workout twice a day, so I've been looking at joining another gym for my evening workouts/swim. I want to try and shift this last 20kg ASAP, through exercise and healthy eating of course!

Anyway tomorrow is Saturday and that means only one more day till my cheat meal YAY.....I reward myself every Sunday with a cheat meal!!

Morning all, how is everyone getting along?
I need to become a little bit more focused on this, so will have to be a bit better at limiting the choc biscuits :D

The kids go back to school next week, so my exercise will increase again by walking my youngest to school and back everyday. Its only about 7mins each way, but thats still almost 30mins a day, and i often do thinks around town while i am walking through, so i get about 45 mins maybe.

Tonights dinner is HM Fish and Chips with mushy peas. The mushy peas recipe calls for double cream, but i'll be sing semi-skimmd milk instead, i hope its still nice enough!

    Have a great day!
