Cant believe it, i havent been under 12 st in over a year, so i am really pleased with that. I am quite happy not to weigh myself for another 6months now.
I have gone from a size 16 to a size 14 as well, so this is obviously working for me.
Congrats..You did a great job..0 -
I was recently recommended to read Dr John Briffa's 'Escaping the Diet Trap' which is subtitled 'not a diet book'. This is a revelation. He debunks so many things, chapter by chapter, provides the scientific research but in a very readable manner. Calorie-counting, low fat, cholesterol, all the 'sacred cows' of the moment, he debunks them all one by one.
Basically, our species evolved over many many thousands of years as hunter-gatherers and that's the kind of 'diet' (although he does his best to avoid the word) which we should be eating. 'The primal principle' he calls it. More natural, less processed, the better.
He thinks Atkins was on the right lines and didn't deserve to be slated as he was, but then, he was up against big business. There are huge profits to be made by producing highly-processed and manufactured foods, also by keeping us all going back to the slimming clubs and groups, a repetitive process. We've been conditioned to think that meat is bad, eggs are bad, margarine is better than butter - none of this is so.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
Before I found wisdom, I became old.0 -
Thanks Win2012, i imagine i have about a stone or so to go until i am healthy, but as i am not weighing myself, i am happy to just see what set point my body rests at. i think about 10st is correct for my height.
Margaretclare- i think 'eat less processed and more natural' is the foundations of a healthy lifestyle.
i also think that many people (particularly women) are encouraged to aim for an unhealhy goal. i am not looking to appear emaciated, i dont want ribs sticking out all over the place, i just want to feel and look healthy.0 -
Hi,
I also don't count calories etc. too much hard work, BUT I do eat a relatively high protein diet with lots of fresh veg and fruites! I EAT CLEAN, so don't drink fizzy drinks, squash, processed foods, I drink skimmed milk with my porridge, I do try and avoid dairy (cheese etc,) but occasionally will have some, I don't eat bread/wheat/flour, and rely on natural sugars from fruites! I eat plenty of nuts, homemade soups, fish, chicken etc. and have a cheat meal once a week, which usually involves sweets! Oh and I avoid alcohol, lots of unnecessary calories!
I joined the gym in Feb, I go 5 times a week (3 days I do strength training) and combine that with cardio, so far I've lost 4st!0 -
Well done MasterPoo, thats a brilliant weightloss!!
I detest exercise (part of my problem i think) so i am a 'fit daily exercise into your lifestyle' kind of girl- i have started walking to the shops and to school with my son etc.
In fact, walking is the only exercise that i can honesly say i enjoy.
I have always liked to idea of trying classes (such as zumba or kickboxing) but dont have anyone to go with and am very very uncoordinated!!0 -
Dec 2011 I started researching gyms, trying to find a good deal and avoiding the joining fee, finally found one at Fitness First for £14.95 PCM off peak. My weight had ballooned to 17.5st and it was depressing me. My GP kept telling me to "hit one bird with two stones" so I joined in Dec, procrastinated a further 6 weeks and finally in Feb 2012 I went to my first class!
I've done Zumba (I'm not a fan) and you don't have to be coordinated, just stand at the back and have fun with it. This will at least increase your activity levels! I enjoy spin, body pump (weights) and everyone is super helpful and I've made great new friends! So give it a go!0 -
Thanks MasterPoo,
i cant afford to do more than 1 class a week, but thats a start i guess!!0 -

Body Pump is among my favorites! It helps keep your metabolism high (while it practically exercises all the body muscles) and help toning your body!
And one last notice (probably its a bit offtopic): while we are in moneysavingexpert.com i would suggest that you go for 12-month subscriptions that drastically reduce the cost for you and "force" you continue working out after the critical 3rd-4th gym session!Trying to save some money!0 -
I think that this is going to be the approach for me
over the years I have half heartedly followed or tried a variety of diets and have always failed so now I have decided to do it my way! Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0
