I'm definitely getting into shape now my brother's wedding is now going to be this year! I also need to shape up for a music festival, last year was a nightmare carrying my stuff! Good work out that weekend, but it was painful at times.

Looked into gyms, may go back to the gym I was with at £20 a month, with an option of using other gyms at £3 a go, which suits me better than paying £40-£50 a month! I can go to my local one during week and the other further away gyms, but with better facilities once a week. So I can go swimming for example or go to group classes.

I will be sorting my diet out too. Less processed stuff and I'm not going to buy sweeteners anymore and have half a tea spoon of sugar, it may be more calories, but less likely to play havoc with my metabolism.etc I will also not buy fizzy drinks for a month.

My only hurdle is the dinners at work when I work evening early January. It's canteen food. The dilemna, take food in or get free, but less healthy food? lol

Have you had a good look at what the canteen has on offer? Most do something along the lines of jacket potato or omlette, or salads at a push.
I couldnt resist getting a free dinner, so i'd just go for the healthiest option that you can.

[Does anyone fancy joining me in a simple, NORMAL healthy eating plan?

JUST TO SAY THAT I AM SURE LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE DONE/ARE DOING THE DIETS AND PLANS I HIGHLIGHTED ABOVE, WITH SUCCESS, BUT ITS NOT FOR ME.[/QUOTE]

:jjust thought I'd share my experience with you all, sort of as new year inspiration. About 2 years ago I thought enough was enough and due to poor health and being 2 stone overweight changed my approach to food/exercise/life.

I started to eat home made soup or salad for meals at home/work lunches - made cheaply with £1 bowls of fruit n veg from the market. poridge for breakfast mostly. Eay as I cut up loads of veg and made 2 salads -one for today one for tomorrow then boil the rest for soup. I didn't become fanatical and still ate pizza etc but much less often. find if i am at work and have a veg or fruit salad with chicken etc I just eat it and forgo the canteen chips!! I also keep fruit and seeds/nuts in the car in little boxes for snacks to avoid the mars bar trap!!

I also stepped up exercise - started Zumba, bok wa and joined a local free walking group. (4 to 10 mile walks) and made new friends. I also started gym sessions and did 2 or 3 a week - some cardio - some free weights - abs etc. a friends dog is always a useful exercise companion too!

2 years on I have lost huge amounts of fat, toned up amazingly and feel much much beter!! I've made lots of new friends.

I still want to lose a bit more weight as I'm nearly size 12 so will join you all but good luck for 2013 and if I can do it so can you!!!

Today I've eaten properly/healthily for the first time since before Christmas and I feel fantastic! Honestly, rubbish food does impact my mood and general well being! I kicked off my morning with 3 egg whites, porridge and green tea, grazed on fruits and nuts during the day and just grilled chicken, saut!ed veg and steamed other veg for dinner!

I had planned on going to gym this morning but I didn't sleep well so just lounged about!

Tomorrow back into my routine of working out in the morning, before my mind starts making excuses why I can't exercise lol!

I need to also plan my meals properly for the week, I find that planning ahead limits cheating! Oh and I also threw out all the Christmas chocs etc.

To get me back on track food wise, I also need to keep my food diary! Or maybe we could all report back daily on what we ate?? I know having to share what I've eaten with others does help with discipline?? What do you all think about that??
  • Hi,

I've read this thread with great interest! Are any of you wanting to lose weight through your healthy eating?

I ask because I NEED to find a way i can lose weight that is sensible, effective and long term. I struggle with binge eating an l believe It is because I spend far too much time thinking about what I can/can't should/shouldn't eat. I know i should be working out the best way to feed myself nutritious food that will help my body work correctly but I I don't know where to start!

I would love to join in with this too please, I need to lose at least a stone and a half but more importantly want to feel fitter. But as soon as the word "diet" is mentioned I suddenly get very hungry :D

I'm the same, it's like there's a switch in my brain and I all of a sudden start craving everything! So as a general rule, I DONT DO DIETS, just healthy eating/eat clean, no calorie counting, no weighing!

I must be honest that I do read ALOT of articles, follow people on twitter, chat to like minded people to help keep me on track. It's a LIFESTYLE CHANGE for me, so I find "living, eating, breathing" healthy lifestyle has worked for me!

    Oopsadaisydoddle - I am/have lost over 4 stone whilst doing this. I have a further 20kgs to go! :eek::eek:

I follow this "diet" Paleolithic diet, google is your friend:)
  • I am with you lot!

I have PCOS so am meant to eat low GI and exercise loads, but a) I work long hours and commute so don't have much free time, b) have no motivation or will power when it comes to going to the gym and c) just really love food!!! On the plus side, I love veggies/'sensible' food as much as junk food so I just need to channel this love of food.

My bf and I live with my parents while we save for a house and they have been doing this diet where they eat normally one day, then 600 calories the next, which has made healthy eating easier. Plus my bf is a good cook and a real nag so he encourages me to be good. Definitely helps having people around to encourage you.

I'd love some healthy, cheap suggestions for dinner, and lunches that will stand up to being bashed about on my 1.5hr train journey into work!

Not sure about the recipes but I got a great food warmer flask off amazon after recommendations on the old style board. Have to say, it's fab. I've been using it for soup but could be used for pasta, risotto, casseroles etc. I'm on my phone so can't do links but will try and get on the laptop tomorrow and post one.

It really does work at keeping stuff hot too. It's supposed to leep things cold as well but I have yet to test that out.

My favourite soup to make is as follows:

    Swede
    Carrots
    Chicken pieces
    Celery
    Coriander
Spices (salt, black pepper, curry powder, everyday seasoning, stock)

Boil chicken, carrots and swede, once swede and carrots ar cooked,,place in blender, blend, place back in pot, shred chicken and mix everything in, cook further.

I usually make a huge batch and decant everyday for lunch!
