Not dieting, not counting calories/carbs etc...just eating healthily. Anyone else?

It seems as though everyone has gone mad!
I have just started to eat healthily and get a bit more exercise in order to lose 2 stone.
But everywhere i turn, people are counting calories, cutting out 1000 calories a day (!!!) or cutting out carbs, doing the atkins diet, or the dukan diet/green days/red days/counting points etc!
There must be others like me, who dont believe in analyzing every morsel thats passes their lips? I dont believe in dieting, but just know that applying the obvious things -eat less (but not going under 1400 cals)/healthier and exercise more- is a long term plan that will work for me.
Does anyone fancy joining me in a simple, NORMAL healthy eating plan?
JUST TO SAY THAT I AM SURE LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE DONE/ARE DOING THE DIETS AND PLANS I HIGHLIGHTED ABOVE, WITH SUCCESS, BUT ITS NOT FOR ME.

Well done for being sensible! I've always said that if diets (such as the ones you mentioned) worked, everybody would be slim. Faddy diets are a con, simple as that. A healthy lifestyle like you have chosen is much better for your body and mind.
I know some diets "work" in the short term, but they can mess up your metabolism, causing more weight gain afterwards.
A great trick which doesn't do any harm is to use a smaller dinner plate. You'll still feel full, but it's easier to control the portions. Good luck and well done from another healthy eater. (I don't want to lose any weight, mind, as I've lost 2st in 6 months without actually wanting to (oops). I'm hoping to put some weight on and then maintain through healthy lifestyle).0 -
Thanks Trolleyrun,
Thanks for the tip about the smaller dinner plate, i'll use that
I know what my downfalls are- using the car for short journeys instead of walking, not getting enough exercise, too much wine and chocolate. So thats is what i am aiming to cut down on/change.0 -
I do like my wine too
I don't usually have puddings or cakes though, so that lets me have wine without worries
Pilates is a great exercise you can do at home and it doesn't necessarily feel like exercise. It's great for core strength and helps prevent back problems. Do you have a dog or access to one? It's easier walking with a purpose instead of walking as exercise. Perhaps you could go walking with a friend/kids/OH. I find I walk further and enjoy it more when I'm walking with someone else

Read Firefox's posts, really helpful.
My downfall is convenience and lack of time makes it hard to throw together a simple meal rather than grab something i can eat straightway and for example, the innocent pot meals dont fill me up.0 -
My weight has crept up over the last 6 years since I changed to a job with a lot of driving and staying in hotels. My downfall were lattes, cakes biscuits and wine.
Been working out 3 times a week in the gym for a while but since signing up with a personal trainer and stopped drinking I have really seen a difference. I try to eat dinner earlier and eat veg instead of potatoes/rice/pasta in the evening and I find it easy to stick to.
My shape has changed a lot and the weight has gone down 5 kilo since mid September. I don't feel like I am on a diet and I now miss going to the gym but not my 1/2 bottle of wine most nights like I used it.
Good luck I am sure you can do it.Moved to Denmark for FIRE by Aug 2025 “May your decisions reflect your hopes not your fears”

Thanks for the encouragement everyone

I dare not weigh myself yet, as i have no clue what i weight. I am guessing its about 13st
but i am not 100% sure.
i dont really want to think of the numbers involved, i just want to feel healthy and fit.0 -
Weight isn't necessarily the thing to check. If you go more on whether your clothes fit, it might be more encouraging. I don't own scales (apart from baking ones, lol) so the only time I weigh myself is at the doctor's.
You can do it

if you ask me i eat properly and i don't get a single pound because 2 years ago i changed my life and included strength work outs in my routine! This unblocked my metabolism i can eat as much as 3000 calories with no worries at all.. of course i don't eat junk food more than twice/week but this is not a real problem, isn't it? Besides i add much protein in my diet which helps for extra metabolism boosting! That's more than enough! Starvation is not a solution!!Trying to save some money!0

I am finally UNDER 12st now

Cant believe it, i havent been under 12 st in over a year, so i am really pleased with that. I am quite happy not to weigh myself for another 6months now.
I have gone from a size 16 to a size 14 as well, so this is obviously working for me.0 -

Well done! You are hopefully very proud of yourself
My weight has stabilised and I've been to see a great dietician at the hospital. She's wonderful and very helpful.
Keep going, you're doing really well! :T:T:T:j:j:j0
