I had quite a bit to eat yesterday but that aside I have been reasonably sensible and am actually looking forward to getting back on track

Well I've pigged out and boy am I feeling it! I hit the gym on Boxing Day to do HIIT then today some strength training and a bit more HIIT, tomorrow more HIIT or a spin class! I'm taking it easy till 02.01.13 then back full throttle once all the crappy food and booze has been consumed! I have another 20kgs to loose, I hope to reach that target by summer!
GOOD LUCK to you all, may the force be with you!0 -
I tried the gym last year, but gave up after 5 months or so. I think I need to learn to do more exercises with other pieces of equipment. Does anyone think a personal trainer would be ok for an intro lesson to teach me how to do the exercises with things like the medicine ball, weights.etc
I can't afford a personal trainer all the time, but I need someone to teach me, as this is where I went down hill, I got bored just doing mainly cardio and work on a few of the machines.0 -
I would like to join you 'WantToBeSE'.
I gave up smoking eight months ago, and have shot up a couple of dress sizes. I was a size 12, but recently even size 16's are starting to get tight on me.
Really must do something, but healthy eating is not something I know a lot about.
The only thing I have done to make a start so far is to swap on to sweetners, and start having porridge for breakfast on work days. I despise eating breakfast, but have certainly noticed myself feeling alot more alert and less likely to snack in the mornings
I think for me, healthy eating is as far as I can go, as joining a Gym realistically I don't have the time and couldn't imagine anything worse. I do promise to walk to dog more though
I shall follow this thread with interest to pick up any tipsThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
MasterPoo- What is HILT? I am presuming it stands for 'High Intensity....something"?
Hi Sharon-When i used to go to the gym i had 1 personal trainer session every 6 months. In that session, she'd ask what i wanted to achieve, and then tell me what i needed to be doing in order to get results.
Hi Ska Lover- nice to have you on board
In regards to the exercise- actual studies have shown that exercise does nothing to aid weight loss. It certainly makes people focus more on weight loss, but in reality, it doesnt actually help.
But, as well as being slimmer, i want to be fitter, so i am aiming to get exercise every day. Its easy when the kids are at school,, as i walk my son to school and back (10mins each way-so 40mins a day), but when its the holiday times its harder. I havent gone for a walk all Christmas holidays so far!
Anyway- i ate a bit more than i would have hoped yesterday, but nothing excessive. I treated myself to 2 glasses of wine and a chocolate bar, but didnt finish it. Now that i have stopped dieting and i know i an eat wharever i want within moderation, the cravings for sweet foods have really eased a lot
Do you know whjat weight you are at the moment Ska Lover? And what your aim is? Or do you, like me, want to focus less on numbers and just go with how your body feels?0 -
My shape has changed a lot and the weight has gone down 5 kilo since mid September. I don't feel like I am on a diet and I now miss going to the gym but not my 1/2 bottle of wine most nights like I used it.0

HIIT-High Intensity Interval Training! EXCELLENT way of burning fat and I swear by it!!
Regarding personal trainer, I've had one all year, I see him 3 x a week, yes it's expensive bla bla bla, but personally I think it's/I'm worth it! Other people pay £256 a month on a car, I use it for my PT sessions. When I started I planned on utilising his service for 18 months/2 years, best £6144 I've spent!0 -
I certainly think that going by how you feel/look is better than using the scales. I was obsessed by the scales and it did nothing but drive me mad - what is a number afterall? A number cannot tell you how fit you are:
For example, you could have someone who weighs 12st and this could be made predominantly of fat. You could also have someone who weighs the same, but this weight be made up of more muscle than fat and therefore that person would probably be more toned and slim than the other person. Scales, can only tell you a number, not what makes up your body and how you look in the mirror.
I have found that doing weights at the gym has really helped to tone me - and having more muscle helps to burn more calories even when resting. And don't listen if people say that lifting heavy weights will bulk you up because women don't produce as much testosterone as men and therefore won't bulk up even half as much as men.
My current gym is tiny so I am looking to join a larger gym with more equipment and where they offer classes. Mixing things up helps to keep the weight off, as the body gets used to the same exercises after a few months so it's good to mix things up.
I have overindulged, not just over Christmas but in the weeks running up to it, so I need to kick myself back into shape!
Good luck to everyone!0 -

I agree with you, strength training/weight lifting is also key! I do that 3 to 4 times a week!0
