I feel that this has far more to do with selling advertising and the change to Moneysupermarket rather than a true wish to help people more - mainly because it does anything but.

Sadly if this continues, which was always my fear when MSE sold then in the words of the Dragons - I'm out :(

And how interesting (and sad) that no-one from MSE has come back on to comment 3 pages in. No longer fighting for the little man I guess !

Down in Feedback - MSE Andrea posted 'Patience'. that was it! one word!

how patronising is that? are we children?

MSE should be courting us longtime forum members - not alienating us! I can, and will, vote with my feet! by walking away! its not the only forum on the web and they would do well to remember that!

    I liked the old board.

Now seeing this new title is now a big fat reminder that I'll never be a Mum or a Grandparent.. cheers MSE. This new one is a bit divisive and upsetting for my like.

In the thread on the 'Singleton' board (Ugh, I really hate that word) we got 'Patience is a virtue' and not a peep since.

I'm half tempted to go bombard the couples board:rotfl: I can't post on the 'singletons' board,it isn't right and I'm out!

and we are still waiting on here for an 'explanation'!

I think we have been treated shamefully!

why not explain properly why the forum thinks that Marraiges etc is no longer a proper title - and then divide it into demographic categories? The best thing about the board was the range of ages and situations which often resulted in diverse opinions - but sometimes you got a consensus! very helpful to posters!

I can't think of any apart from the advertising suggestion.

There have been some on the 'singletons' (ugh!) board who have suggested it's helpful because those who are single have different/difficult/whatever financial problems etc.Carp!!!!!

As I said there, benefits questions go on benefits boards, housing questions go on housing boards,CSA questions go on CSA board and so on.

I don't know of many posts at all that have been specifically related to being single!!!!!!

I keep coming to check on this thread and feel naughty because I shouldn't be on this board, I'm waiting for MSE towers to tell me off :rotfl:

The only one I can think of was 'what's the best thing about being single'. Creating a new board just for one thread seems a bit OTT though...

I think it must be the advertising thing, or they're using the forums as market research of some kind, to find out what the burning issues are for different groups of people.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Well,if they're using it for market research they won't be getting much out of the singles will they!!!

    Split the board by demographics?

How do you do that on a board which is littered with "I'm a regular user with a new name" threads? Mostly about 'sensitive', 'sexual', or 'argument-triggering' topics.

Some will be genuine. Are all of them genuine? Given the relatively small group of users who use this subsection of the internet? Unlikely.

If MSE wanted to make changes, they should have gone down the route of fully acknowledging a truth which has been evident for a long time now - and which was hinted at in the mods' 'evolving board' thread a year or so ago:

    - this board has very little to do with money-saving these days.

So, take 'money-saving' out of the title.

For the rest, leave it as it was - a weird mixture of occasional moneysaving topics; confessional/diary threads; support threads for those who are dealing with family members who are 'atypical' in some way; support for those who are dealing with trying to conceive - and various stages thereafter; the troll/soap opera threads - which sometimes have interesting topics; and the other random - but often interesting and educational - threads whcih pop up here.

All that said, I don't think that MSE 'owe us an explanation'. It's their board, they can do what they want with it.

The rest of us can either:

    - adapt (as some have done before, when MSE tacitly acknowledged that this was no longer a moneysaving board); or
    - leave (as some have threatened to do now, and in the past).
