What an absolutely bizarre and unnecessary change.0
-
This is an idiotic idea! how could you 'dumb down' a perfectly good board title! now we have three boards to dither over posting on - plus I bet the board guides will now have loads of fun playing 'musical posts' and no-one will be able to find the thread they were following!
PUT IT BACK - and yes, forum team, I AM shouting! in the hopes that someone will hear me!0 -
A ridiculous change.
I'm trying to figure out the real reason and have sadly come to the conclusion that MSE wants to see less non money related topics posted.
This board had a strong almost club feeling that I liked.
If ain't broke , don't fix it comes to mind.
No - they have split by 'demographic'.
So it's an ad thing.
Whilst pretending that it's about people getting their questions answered.
Shame on them.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

A parent with dementia living with you complicates life in a way that nothing else does too, so do lots of things, just in a different way to having children.
I'm not saying it's a competition. But you can have a parent with dementia that you're caring for at home AND dependent children. For every situation you can think of, you can add kids to the mix.
Everyone has had parents and everyone can be single or part of a couple but not everyone will have kids. If you do not/will not/can not have kids in your life - whether actual children born, step, adopted, fostered, godchildren or pregnancy (own or surrogacy) only - there is no child-related money saving for you to do. You wouldn't visit the credit card forum if you didn't have, had or intend to have a credit card, would you?
I can see the point of splintering off the "child" related element of the families forum. I find it harder to see the point of separating the singles from the couples for the "non-child" part of the families forum. All the couples were previously singles and all the singles may become couples. What they might not do is have to budget for kids.0 -
Further to the above... I've just noticed a "preparing financially for TTC or something like that" thread has been moved to the "couples" board. I'd actually consider that more suited to this, the designated "children" board.
I guess I don't actually get the point of this arbitrary forum split up...0 -
Plus its often the more fun threads that will have nowhere to go. Things you learnt from your mum, or the 50p gifts thread will disappear. And its very interesting to see how people deal with situations you have experienced or want to experience.
I agree this board had become like a comfy chat on lots of issues with a big mix of friends, and now very divisive.0 -

And childless people have nothing to offer those with children? And vice versa? If, for example. someone posts asking for advice on presents for a 12 year old boy, I might well offer advice based on my nephews. Likewise someone's advice about their wife might well help me with a question about my sister. It all seems really odd. And where do queries about friends go?0 -
Hmmm ... splitting the board by demographics? Sounds like 'marketing' to me - weren't we promised "no change to the forum" when MSE was sold off to MoneySupermarket?
I don't think this change makes sense. Too many discussions cross boundaries: Mums & Dads can be single or in a couple; TTC can be single, couple or are they wanna-be Mums?; couples with children could be splitting up to become single. As others have said, advice is worth collecting from all rather than divided groups.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I'm suppose I'm a 'singleton' (appalling word!) although not divorced, but I'm also a mother, grandmother, and daughter. I also have pets, am interested in health and beauty and am looking to buy my funeral in advance yet my place on these boards has been swept from under me. I'm not alone, there are thousands of us who belong nowhere any more.
To segregate folk like this a pointless exercise, have you people behind the scenes nothing better to do? Where was the poll, where was the consultation with the real people, the ones who keep this site running, the end users?
This isn't a knee-jerk reaction but genuine disappointment in losing what was a solid, sensible group of forums. If this inappropriate decision is not reversed MSE might just see a lot of people voting with their delete buttons.0
