Why the need for the change? There didn't seem to be anything wrong with the way the board was operating before.
I think its a crazy idea. I am a mum, yes, but that doesn't define me, I'm not only capable of having discussions about babies and children. I have plenty of other facets to my life, and life experiences in other fields, or am I expected to have lost any interest in anything other than children once I gave birth?0 -
Seriously people, its just an online forum. I dont see what all the fuss is about.0

Single people are part of families too!
I wonder whose dumb idea this was...If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -
Have to agree. One of the nice things about this board was that you could post and get advice from a range of people and have some different perspectives on an issue. I think the segregation is rather sad and will probably lead the new boards being very quiet and feeling a bit isolated. Plus what if you're single with kids, or single but your problem would benefit from the advice of people in couples more? Or you have kids but your problem is related to your relationship? I really didn't see what was wrong with the old 'families' version.
I was going to post saying why not split off the TTC stuff as it's a bit specific for the board. Then I read pod's comment which I agree with. So I'll just go back to skipping the pregnancy threads.
I'd like an explanation about the thinking behind the changes (assuming that there was any;)).0 -
I like the new Singletons board: we aren't nuclear families without children.
Nobody is obliged to read or post on just the one board, MSE is chock full of boards on different but related topics. If we want to post about our extended family - siblings/ parents/ grandparents - obviously the old Families board is still the place to do that.

Put it back, this is a horrible decision. Don't break up established user groups, people wont bother using all the boards so people will drift apart.
It's basically 3 boards, exactly the same, for 3 different groups. What is the point?0 -
So I have to frequent the Mum's, Dad's and Grandaprents board to read the trying for a baby thread.
Thanks MSE. As much as I'd love to be a Mum my body is not playing ball and this is another thing to remind me of that fact.
What were you thinking???0 -

Another good reason to put it back. We should go for inclusiveness, not making anyone feeling left out because of things outside of their control.0 -
Way too complicated. It used to be one stop for relationship issues, now I need to check three boards? And spend ages dithering over where to post?
Also divisive and artificial - I've posted about probate problems before but as I'm single I shouldn't be on the board that includes the probate sub board...
I think I'll stick to just reading DT instead of visiting the help and advice boards.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
I've just done some sums.
Using my settings, there are 1332 pages in this board. And out of the 'zero' answered threads, only 10 pages are not unanswered due to being locked. And about 20% of those were moved, or were deleted before any answers could be given.
So lets say 8 pages were truly unanswered. That's 0.6% of unanswered threads.
So for 0.6% - of people unable to get their questions answered, this decision has been made.
Interesting.If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0
