How old are these cards? if they are over a year old then they've probably been wiped.

My son got them on 8th August this year for his Birthday.
  • There must be a value on them.. Don't you have a record of what you have spent on them ? just deduct it from the total

I bought my partner a gift card once with £200 on Schuh for some Ugg Boots. She actually got them somewhere else and I just took the gift card along with my original receipt back to the shop and they gave me my money back.

As the buyer for the original receipt and go to Sports Direct and speak to the manager and give him some !!!! and bull story as to why you need the money back.

I'd be tempted to use them against branded stuff like Adidas or Nike tbh rather than sell them on ebay. Could get some good xmas pressies. Or loads of socks :rotfl: Have to say, that's about the only things I buy out of there these days. Socks socks and more socks.

I wouldn't buy them on ebay either, but there are plenty of people who do, good luck with whatever you decide.

A hundred and fifty quids worth of socks??? lololol!!!:rotfl:

Hey, maybe I should buy some branded stuff and sell that on ebay instead? Now there's an idea! ;)

But back to my original question, why should I have to buy something in the shop just to find out the balance on my gift card? Is that even legal? As yet, no-one has answered my question.

Probably because Mr Cashley.. sorry, Ashley is the owner and he likes to line his pockets in everyway he can. Like charging me £4 for my half time pie at Newcastle games this season

But the buyer is 89 years old and sometimes doesn't even know what day of the week it is let alone where he put a receipt for something he purchased 3 months ago!

So if he has a problem with basic tasks who sorted out the vouchers for him?

OK, I'll restrict myself to your question.

Yes it is perfectly legal to charge you for a service.
They have advised you the cost of that service, make any purchase, beforehand, haven't they?

It is an optional service. As has been said, it is reasonable to expect you (or your son) to keep a check of the outstanding balance.

Hi. I have 4 Sports Direct gift cards totalling roughly about £150 and quite frankly I want rid of them. There is nothing in the store that I want and the cards cannot be used online  Therefore I am planning to sell them on ebay for whatever I can get.

My son took them into our local store yesterday to check the balance on the cards as some had been left blank, and meeting up with the usual rude and surly staff was informed that it was only possible to check the balance when you are purchasing something. So that means that I have got to buy something from their awful store just to check how much money I have left on the cards???

I am going into the shop personally today so would like some clarification on this matter if anyone can help please? Where do I stand on this? Thank you.

I thought that perhaps they were just giving my son the runaround as he is only 15 and was in his school uniform. They have no patience with regular customers so I can't really see them going out of their way to help a schoolboy.

Yesterday was Sunday, so he would look a little odd in school uniform.
  • Now you're being pedantic! It was Friday he took them in.
