  • arcon5 -Thank you for your support. It's nice to know someone wants to help me instead of just being downright rude and unhelpful. I didn't manage to get back to the store today, and although I did try customer services I was left constantly on hold whilst they dealt with 'other customers' After 10 minutes I gave up.

What I fail to understand is how the store can basically force you to buy an item just to check the balance on your card. Maybe I should buy one of their 49p carrier bags on each card, and then return the bags at a later date and have the amount credited back to the cards? It just doen't make sense.

You can't return items to Sports Direct if you change your mind. You would be forced to keep the bags.

  • Well in that case I suppose it's worth spending £1.96 to find out my balance as I believe there is almost £150 on the cards. It still doesn't seem right that you have to purchase an item on each card before they will tell you the balance. How would you feel if everytime you wanted to find out the balance on your debit card they charged you 50p?

Out of interest, whose cards are they, and how did you/he get them? Seems odd to get 4 cards to somewhere you don't want
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Oh, that did make me chuckle! The relative in question is an 89 year old uncle who thinks my Son loves Umbro and Lonsdale when in fact, nothing could be further from the truth. I have explained this very kindly to him and now he just gives him the cash instead. However, I'm still stuck with these blasted cards that are no use to me or my Son! It was his idea to sell them on ebay (believe it or not they are quite popular!) but for obvious reasons I need to know the exact balance on each card before listing them.

PS Wish you hadn't edited the bit that said 'Or was he just unlucky?' That was the bit that had me in stitches!:rotfl:

How old are these cards? if they are over a year old then they've probably been wiped.

Why not give the cards back to whoever gave them to your son?

Unless you make that person aware, you might well get more of them in around a months time.
  • I would be reluctant to buy vouchers off eBay just in case they have been reported stolen and blocked.

I'd be tempted to use them against branded stuff like Adidas or Nike tbh rather than sell them on ebay. Could get some good xmas pressies. Or loads of socks :rotfl: Have to say, that's about the only things I buy out of there these days. Socks socks and more socks.

I wouldn't buy them on ebay either, but there are plenty of people who do, good luck with whatever you decide.

Well, he's 89 years old for a start off, and surprisingly not very sporty. It would be a bit difficult giving them back to him and saying "Here's your vouchers back, they're useless. Just give me the £150 instead in cash" What would he do with them?

I have told him now and he's said he won't buy anymore. :T:T

But back to my original question, why should I have to buy something in the shop just to find out the balance on my gift card? Is that even legal? As yet, no-one has answered my question.
