I'm an 18 year old uni student, I'm a girl
Not wanted:
Most books (I love reading, but only close friends, my Dad and my elder sister have a good idea of which ones I want)
Bath stuff (I'm allergic to about 50% of bath stuff)
Knick-knacks (I'm in student accommodation and don't have much room)
White chocolate (I don't mind it grated on top of dark chocolate....)
Liquorice (I don't like it)
Wine (I drink some alcoholic drinks, but not wine)
Fancy tea/coffee (I drink neither)
Bookmarks (I don't use them and everyone gives me them)
CDs (Rarely the music I like, if it is I probably already have it)
If we're very close these are acceptable:
Lingerie (I'll probably wear it at some point)
Books (you probably know what I want)
Generally good:
Anything from books, anime, tv shows or movies that I like
Amazon vouchers
Cookbooks (They either don't contain anything I can't find on the internet or demand ingredients I don't have)
Money in my paypal account
Tights and socks (I always wear them out really fast)
Nice chocolates
Nice gloves
Cookie cutters/novelty ice cube trays/icing equipment (that I don't have)
Luxury hot chocolate
Book vouchers
Pretty notebooks
DVDs (people normally get the film of a book I have, can't count the number of times I've seen people at my bookshelf)
Expensive conditioners
Handmade stuff (even when it takes up room, if it was crafted with care I'll still love it)
Eyes/wigs for my BJDs
Worst present:
Very explicit lingerie from a boy I'd been dating for a month and kept hinting at things I had already said no too............ I don't mind a nice bra with matching knickers from a close friend/sibling with no ulterior motive.......0 -
I'm 25 and female and a teacher!
The thing I really do not like getting is chocolate...I very rarely eat it so end up giving it away/forcing it on guests lol!
I love getting clothes....they're my fave but I hate it when people get the wrong size....which is most people except my parents, best mates and husband to be. I have been a 6-8 for about 8 years, but before I hit 16 I was quite overweight....some relatives still insist on getting me things in those sizes lol.
I am also not a massive fan of make-up sets from boots as most of the colours are too dark/bright for me....although I have received the odd gem!
Other than that I am pretty easygoing. It is the thought tht counts!"More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0 -
People take my slight interests to far... I end up with lots of cupcake themed niknaks...etc.
I'd much prefer some clothing vouchers... or certain items that I know I definetly want. I'm guessing it would be too rude to create a list?
Does anyone create a list?
We all make a list to a budget and stick to it. What is the point of spending money on gifts that just go to the charity shop/school fayre etc. this way we get what we want off the list (we don't know what has been bought and it just another way of dropping hints really) and no one wastes money but the most important thing we make sure happens is we all sit down to Christmas dinner together. After losing my dad we cherish every Christmas we have together and chat about him and teach our children it's not about the gifts (that's just a small part of it) . Memories last for ever, gifts last a few weeks before you forget what you got. Ask the kids what they got last year and they cant tell you. :T:T0 -
What an interesting thread!
I love chocolate of any description plus a tin of posh biscuits, in fact anything edible!
I also love vouchers and love smelly sets (but agree...who uses body lotion?!).
I love socks too
I love books but wish you could somehow gift and e-book as I am trying to stay clutter free so only have e-books these days!
I don't like knick knacks - I don't have any room for themI don't like any sort of novelty item. Yes singing fish (Billy Bass anyone?) are amusing for five minutes but realistically its not going to take pride of place in my living room, it will most likely end up at a car boot sale.
I like things that I can consume so they don't take up space in my house.
One thing I do love is practical gifts. I really wanted a new cooking pan for Christmas a couple of years back and no one would buy me one as they said it wasn't a present. It was what I really really wanted as I love batch cooking and didn't have a pan big enough. Ended up buying it myself and wrapping it up from DH to give to me
My Mum also loves practical gifts and stuff for the house. My Mother-in-law hates practical gifts and stuff for the house. Good job we are all different hey!0 -
Am loving this thread - some people very similar to me on here
Things I wouldn't like -but usually get!
Wine - neither me or OH drink it so it usually ends up sat in the cupboard for months until someone who does comes round
Books - I do actually love books but I can be quite fussy with them so would love for people to ask me which I would like, but they never do and pick something that I really wouldn't read.
Gloves/scarves - I have millions already, and I only wear gloves when it's snowing anyway
Slippers - I rarely wear them but my mum seems to buy me a new pair every year! One year she was heavily hinting about the 'ugg' boot style slippers and I mentioned that I really didn't like them - guess what I got for Christmas that year :rotfl:
Dressing gowns - again, hardly ever wear them but have about five in the wardrobe.
It's not that I don't appreciate people making the effort to buy me something, but I end up feeling bad that they've spent their money on something I'm just not going to use0 -
PLEEAASSEEE! NO MORE CHOCOLATE!!!! Since I am slightly Lactose intollerant still, it's no the best, and my poor Hubs is still trying to work his way through last years that is still in date!
Yes to music, yes to dvds, yest to candles, yes to socks oddly enough! But no please thank you for jewellery. I only wear gold. Proper gold and unless the Hubs buys it then I feel awful!
Yes also to other foodie bits or alcohol!

Things id love to have are:
Veg seeds and plants for the garden
New dog beds for the dogs
New pair of real ugg boots to wear as slippers
Cookery books - i only like a few chefs and people know which ones i need to add to my collection and usually book mark the dish they'd like to have when next round.
Things i always get but would rather not:
Sheep ornaments - i may be a shephered wife but why oh why do i need little china or stuffed toy sheep all over the place.
Cheap chocolates with alcohol in them - not nice but people who buy them cant have tried them first.
Decorative wooly hats, scarves and gloves - get at least one set every year with the saying it must be cold out on the farm - yes it may be but im fortunate to be very warm blooded and never wear them as i get too hot and they just get in the way.

What really kills my pig is the gifts that I get from a well-meaning cousin. Scenario:- I have a horse. I love her dearly and she takes up a lot of my time but she is not the be-all and end-all of my life. My cousin obviously thinks otherwise and always buys me horse-related gifts at Christmas. Not a headcollar or a new pair of riding gloves or a pair of wellingtons or a bag of feed or a voucher for a couple of bales of hay or a new sidesaddle cane or anything else useful, but a cushion with a horse on it (well it's useful in the car), a diamante horse head brooch (I don't wear jewelry), socks with horses on them (sized for a child), a horse board game for ages 6-12 (I don't play board games and I'm 63 for god's sake) and all sorts of similar, expensive tat aimed at teenagers that she finds in the equine store that she makes a special trip to every year just for me.
I can't say anything because I like her and I don't want to offend her but I'd much rather she sent the money she spends on me to an equine welfare charity0 -
I have made it clear that we do not need any more mugs! Other than that I'm much in the camp of it is the thought that counts.
But this has been a useful, interesting read!

One Christmas Day I found that my someone in my class had given me headlice - and they weren't even gift wrapped.
I wasn't too keen on the empty jam jars I was given either! I think my brother thought he had bought me jars of jam.0
