Presents You'd Rather NOT Receive?!

  • This year we have decided to do a secret santa for family with a max of £30 to spend. No more running around shops buying smellies/socks/booze - anything just to have something to wrap so the recipient has something to open on Chritmas day. I only have to buy for one person, a max of £30 and in turn I will only receive one present a max of £30. You can buy a good present for £30 and I have found it so much easier. This suits me fine as I just don't see the point of spending money on presents for working adults who can buy what they want, when they want, anyway, and it negates receiving presents that we don't want, will never use and never need. This christmas is a lot cheaper and a lot less stressful as a result. I recommend it.
  • I'm early 30's male.

    Don't like:
    • Executive office toys (desktop basketball hoops and similar) :o
    • Hats of any kind
    • Deodorant and shower gel.
    • Anything football related - used to love my Arsenal gear when I was younger, but no more

That said, the thing I love more than anything these days are gifts that involve doing something with the family. They bring me the most joy and are far more memorable than tangible items.

I really wish people wouldn't buy me gifts at all! Not because they get it wrong or I don't like the things they buy me but the majority of the time, the people buying the gifts are in a worse financial state than me/us and I would much, much rather they used the money they were planning to spend on me as a treat for themselves - a dinner out, a manicure, a cinema trip and then just send me a little note or text telling me what they did :).

Christmas has always been about giving for me and I am in a very fortunate position now that I am able to give generously but I know that makes some people feel awkward so I would prefer it if we just vetoed gifts entirely (in a completely un scrooge way).

Otherwise - socks and slob clothes :rotfl:

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D
