I got the "winner" email earlier and excitedly told my wife and family before googling the hotel and looking at dates when Barcelona are at home etc. Been out since and thought a few times how great a prize it is.
Just got home and received that pathetic excuse of an apology e-mail. I'm fuming. Phoned Boots and spoke to a perfectly polite manager called Scott Chadder who informed me it was a mistake, he was very sorry, but that was the end of the matter.
Somehow I don't think it will be. That's an awful lot of human upset they've caused in building up people to believe they've won an utterly fantastic holiday, only to pull the rug from under their feet a few hours later.
Sorry - but actions have consequences, and when someone's dropped a clanger of this proportion then there's going to be a price to pay. I'm so angry about this. Not told my wife yet that it was a mistake. She's currently in a meeting where she's likely to be made redundant, so this will be a nice extra kick in the chops for her when I phone her later. Thanks for that, Boots.
Some people make me lose my faith in human decency! It was a mistake! There's 1000's of other competitions here! Move on! Your situation is sad but was nothing to do with boots unless your wife works for them. :j Thanks to all the OP's for all your hard work! :j:beer:0 -
Yep, I got one too, only to get the second email an hour later stating it was a computer glitch
I did enter the competition a while back so really did think I had won - what a numpty!
ah the excitement for the hour between emails was nice while it lasted
Still waiting to win one competion, one day it will happen, cheers everyone , keep competing0 -
Wish I'd seen and entered that comp, so I could have at least won a fake holiday :rotfl:
I wouldn't trust anything that said I'd won but didn't have my name in the email. I'd also go to MSE first and check if I'd entered such a comp, and if there were any other winners, and keep quiet the whole time until I knew for sure.
Two hours isn't really that much time honestly, to work out what's going on and chase up who did what, then discuss what to do, how to word the email, and so on.
Anyone remember this other competition, I think it was for a gardening website, that tricked people into thinking they'd won an iPad in the email title? But when you opened it, it was something like "...is what we would have said if you'd won, but you haven't! Anyway blah blah"0 -
I've emailed them. A perfectly polite email, not requesting compensation, but pointing out that people weren't inconvenienced by the email, but were disappointed to find out that they did not win. Their email does not acknowledge this fact at all, and to me, that was bad management of the error.2009 winnings: private box at the ballet, a cooking lesson with Jean Christophe Novelli, a case of wine, £25 itunes downloads, a candle, Football Manager PC game, a lipstick, £2500

Can't believe the attitude of some people on here. Get over it. I too received such an email but totally accept it as a mistake.#THANKYOUSIRALEX0

I got so excited when I thought I'd won. Told the OH that "I think I've won a holiday to Barcelona"
I wasn't convinced though so i then decided to check on here. I'm glad I had my doubts. Disappointed obviously but I don't expect compensation for it. Someone made a mistake, I haven't lost anything I didn't already have.
Life goes on....0 -
Didn't some people get a phone call saying they won? Surely if it was just an Email, you could think that it was an error/bad computer skills..but some people was told the news by phone.
That, and surely it should not take 2 hours to email saying it was a mistake if they realised the mistake when people must have rung in to check?
Still, I do feel sorry for the person/team that made that boo boo. Would not like to be them right now.
(Hey, how much do you think the prize was worth? If it was £2500 and they gave equal prized gift/cheque that would be some thank you awhahaha!)
Back to the comp board and hopefully this time I can keep my 'prize'Thank you all for making MSE so wonderful!

I've still got the Gardening Express email. I kept it to remind me not to have anything to do with the complete gits. Its a bit of a different situation here though as the boots email was a mistake and wasnt sent to deliberately mislead.
I feel very sorry for the person that sent the email but It was a massive mistake considering the amount of people it was sent to. Perhaps this is a lesson to be more careful if your job puts you in a position where you are responsible for contacting so many people at once.0 -

But I do reserve the right to be fuming at being told I've won a fantastic holiday and to expect a call shortly to confirm etc. only to receive a trite e-mail later in the day telling me it was a mistake.
I don't want anyone to lose their job but I do want to know how it happened and what Boots intend to do to rectify such a horrific blunder.
I'd also like to know who actually won!0
