Has anyone updated the firmware for the "LINKSYS SIP VOIP PHONE ADAPTER PAP2-NA STAY UNLOCKED" purchased from billionax?

I contacted him and got a reply that was none committal and I can't blame him.

UPDATE:

I have flashed the firmware to Version: 3.1.22(LS) and it now has the missing settings.

I updated it locally using "Tftpd32" following these instructions:

Ever wondered how to upgrade the firmware on your PAP2?

Note: many PAP2 are locked to specific VoIP providers, you carry out this process at your own risk.

The process is relatively simple:
1) unzip the firmware and place it in a directory on your computer
2) download & install a TFTP server
3) point the TFTP server to the unzipped file
4) log into the PAP2 and tell it to upgrade it's firmware

So those 4 steps are...

1) Save the file to disk and then unzip it.

2&3) A good tftp program is here: http://tftpd32.jounin.net/

4) Copy the URL below into a web browser it will put the PAP2 into firmware upgrade mode.

Be sure not to interrupt the upgrade process.
http://pap2ipaddress/upgrade?tftp://TFTPSERVERIPADDRESS/PAP2-319.bin

In this mode it will download the PAP2-319.bin firmware from the designated TFTP Server

SOURCE : http://forums.blueface.ie/index.php

In my case this is what I ended up with:
http://192.168.0.100/upgrade?tftp://192.168.0.5/pap2-3-1-22-LS.bin

192.168.0.100 = PAP2 IP
192.168.0.5 = My computers IP

I put "pap2-3-1-22-LS.bin" in C:\pap2 folder and pointed the server to C:\pap2

Download PAP2 firmware : v3.1.22-LS

I did it local because I did not want to be on net after updating and before I could check that Provision Enable is still set to NO.

I have been using http://www.efonica.com/efonica/site/index.html with my PAP2, only using their free service to receive and make phone calls to anybody with the same software installed and without having to have my computer switched on all the time.

As it is set up at the moment I don't seem to be able to use it to make and receive BT landline calls. Perhaps this unit is not designed to do this as I can't seem to find any information in the instructions about it.
Help gratefully received.

I can send and receive BT land line calls with the PAP2.

NOT USING BT just VOIP.

BexTech may be able to give more advice on the issue as I am a novice with VOIP.

I am using : www.voiptalk.org try signing up for free and test it with that provider.

Do you mean you can't make calls to people on BT and people on BT can't ring you, or do you meant you can't make the phone connected to the PAP2 use the BT line?

If the latter, the PAP2 is VoIP only, it's not possible to also use the phone connected to it for making and receiving BT Line (PSTN) calls.

Thanks for the replies guys and as I want to do as above, it looks like I will have to buy another phone. More desk clutter!

Actually, I really don't get this VoIP lark and really can't see what the advantage is to signing up with somebody like VoIPtalk and others similar, (except to use the free Efonica service) whose charges are much more expensive than using 1899 for UK calls and 0844 numbers for international calls. Check them here http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/.

As in these examples:

VoIPtalk rates, UK 1.4 p/minute, South Africa 4.5 p, Australia 01p, Spain 02p.

Using 1899 and 0844 numbers, UK 4p connection charge and speak for as long as you like. South Africa 2p, Australia and Spain .5p/minute.

Perhaps I'm missing out on something?

People like myself who get broadband via Virgin Media's cable network, do not require a phone line, cable broadband comes through a co-ax cable separate to the phone.

This means we can dump the landline completely and save the £11 per month that costs.

For me the last 2 years (almost) has cost me little more than €6 (Six Euro) in total for my VoIP phone service, plus the cost of the PAP2 ATA.

Most of this was due to when VoIPBuster first started, it cost €1 and you had unlimited calls, they then dropped UK as free and I moved onto VoIPStunt, the charge then went up to €5, this again got me many months of completely free and unlimited calls, this lasted for about a further 16 months, then they introduced 300 mins per week free, and also the free calls would last for 120 days unless you topped up again, you don't lose your credit though it can be used for chargeable calls - those that aren't free or become chargeable after your free minutes / free days are up.

As I had free credit added to my easyMobile mobile phone through recommending them, I used some of this up as easyMobile was closing, to top up my VoIP Stunt account, the most you can top up for in free days is 365, still that's another year of free calling and plenty of credit for any chargeable calls.

So at the moment I'm not really paying anything for my calls.

You can get ATA devices that will do what you want.

Please correct me if I am wrong BexTech.
