HBOS aka Halifax Bank of Scotland

Hi,
Heres my dilema,
I added all my charges up over the past 6 years and popped interest on top and they came to £488.85.
Now, i know its not as much as everyone seems to be claimimg back but to me, my other half and our daughter it's half the cost of a last minute holiday!
So. I wrote to the Halifax and they replied saying "no, you can't have your money back as you were told in your bank agreement that these charges would be applied if I did anything wrong!"
Now, as I understand it the actual dispute is the amount charged and not the charges themselves?!
Anyway, I sent them one of Martins wonderful letters saying I still wasn't happy and I'd be taking further action if they didn't give me my money back.
They replied just on the 2 week deadline with an offer of £193.50, (which is less than half) which would be credited to my account within 14 days, also saying this is a goodwill gesture and they're not in the wrong.
This has now already been credited to my account, 7 days in, but i'm still not happy really as it isn't going to get us a last minute holiday! They said if I still wasn't appy to return the money and contact them.
Do I do that?
Am I going to get bullied over the phone?
Do I stand a chance of getting the full amount back if i go through the small claims court?
Any advice would be great!0 -
- claimed £1600 + interest
- got a letter offering me £750, with a phone number to call if that wasn't acceptable
- phoned up, got put through to lovely lady, did some not very hard bargaining & now have £1500 being given back to me
:j  :j  :j
so if there is a phone number get in there & go straight in with a high figure, seems to work!
Massive thanks to Martin & all on this site for all the information

I have now claimed by default 4,800 but am awaiting payment. Did you have to call in bailiffs. When did you get your offer. I don't know what to do next!!0

Finally got paid out - never thought it would happen
Sent for my statements 11 April and finally recieved them 15th June after several phone calls.
Sent letter requesting refund of £2733 plus interest straight away and a cuple of days later recieved a - dont think so letter!
Rand the numbers posted on this site (thanks to all who posted them) and asked for a review!
Rang a week later to give it a bit of a push!
Recieved letter on the 7th offering £1340 (was in hospital so rang when i got out)
Agreed over the phone a settlement of £2500 on 12th - I little less than I was asking for but it was a figure I had in my head to settle on - besides its definetely money I never thought I would see again!
I would suggest to people still claiming - go for it, once you have your no your not getting it back letter to ring ask for a review and then keep ringing every week till its sorted! definetely worked for me
and many thanks to graham and them team as well as everyone posting on here - without you all I would never had got this money back!0 -
Haven't posted on here for a while but I have had a couple of successess including a £3000 part payment from Halifax. I am about to file a claim for the rest plus interest on the three accounts I have with them.
I am thinking of making a combined claim for all three as filing three separate claims will be costly as the total is around another £2500 plus interest.
Does eveyone think this is a good idea, I have to say I can't see what the difficulty might be as I have individual records for all three but I would like some feedback please.
Thanks as always

I've posted a couple of times, about how far i've got with the Halifax claim.
As of today the Halifax have not made any offer of any kind to me  and have also confirmed that they will be defending the court case.
I understand they have 8 weeks to produce a defense ? is this normal practice for the Halifax and will they show up on the day or not ?0 -
Halifax won't pay me back for my bank charges. They said in the letter that basically that when I signed up for the account I was aware of the charges too. Not sure what to do next quite scared of taking them to court. Can anyone suggest what I need to do next?????0

I used the financial ombudsman, was very easy, costs nothing and if they fail you can still go to courtLast Cigarette 24/6/090

is this their first letter? if the answer is yes then do not worry at all as they do this with everyone.
I have successfully reclaimed over £5,000 for several people and have experienced many dealings with halifax.
Write to the chief executive with a 14 day threat to take them to court.
if you need the contact details for the Chief Executive then ask I will give you it
Definately set up with the OmbudsmanINCREASE INTEREST ON SAVINGS!
...I will thank you if youve been helpful, please do the same! :j0 -
