Coat was in a celephane bag as brand new and in brown paper yes.

I've never had an ebay dispute...I have never had anything go missing. I'm not being a pain here I just want to minimise my role in having to sought all this out. Money is tight too so refunding would leave me well out of pocket, a coat short and I have also lost money on ebay fees etc and paypal charges...

how did I know it would be brown paper?
likely the paper has disintegrated in transit. the plastic wrapping makes it even more likely to split while sliding around.
soft items and brown paper do not go well.
    As for minimising your role.
you are the seller, your buyer has paid. thats all they can do.
its up to you to get the item to them.
I stand by the likelihood the coat has split out of its packaging.

that way when they file the dispute, they can get a refund and you have no proof to claim from RM :T
Im guessing you wrapped the coat in brown paper?

huge dollop of irony in this post, I'm detecting :rotfl:

OP if the royal mail is showing the package as 'still processing' that kind of implies (to me, anyway?) that it might still turn up. I would give it another day or two.

Hopefully it's not the case that the package has split open..
  • Nah it wont have split, I literally get a roll of celetape and go round and around and around from both ends.

I'll message the buyer and then wait and see.
    Debtfree!

  • This suggests the buyer can claim a refund. I may forward him copies of the proof of postage etc and leave the ball in his court.

The original of the POP is needed to make the claim, a photocopy is no use for this.
If you send the original and the buyer decides not to use this as a paypal or ebay claim is far easier for them, they will be refunded in full and you will have no way to recover your money.

The RM website says "If both the sender and recipient of the item make a claim for compensation then the right to claim shall lie with the sender unless compensation has already been paid to the recipient. ".

This suggests the buyer can claim a refund. I may forward him copies of the proof of postage etc and leave the ball in his court.

    Bad move on your part.

Firstly a week is not long enough to allow for delivery. I would advise the buyer to wait a few more days at least..

It is for you to chase it up, not the buyer. If I were the buyer and you did this I would raise a dispute with ebay and give you neg feedback.

You need to allow atleast 15 working days past the due delivery date of the item. second class is normally 3-5 working days. once this has passed you will then need to send in a P58 claim form. you or the buyer can do this.

If you google Royal mail P58 Claims you'll find all the info on there.

If you read the thread you will note this is an eBay issue.

Therefore seller needs to refund the buyer in a timely manner, a week is a bit soon, but probably by the end of this week. Refund should be the entire a,out paid including postage.

Then after 15 working days seller uses their proof of posting to reclaim loss from RM . As a private seller they should get back the eBay sale amount plus postage charged up to a maximum of £46.

Everything else is immaterial. If seller starts expecting buyer to make a claim, or expecting buyer to wait 3 weeks then all that will happen is that buyer will open an eBay case and get the refund that way. The case will show as a bad mark on the seller expanded dashboard and buyer will almost certainly leave a neg.

So, by delaying or being awkward buyer *still* gets a full refund but seller ends up with poor feedback .also, RM sometimes ask buyer to confirm item has not arrived, so of seller has been difficult buyer has o reason to be helpful at all

As for brown paper wrapping, I agree with custardy, thats been torn in a machine and is probAbly sitting on a floor in a office somewhere trying to match it up to a return address somewhere. In a busy postal service brown paper is no longer a suitable medium for keeping parcels safe.

If you, as the seller, submit an ebay claim to Royal Mail, they will require proof of value, ie what the item cost you, regardless of what it sold for on ebay. Knowing RM, if you still have the receipt and the coat cost more than £60, they will use the excuse that the item should have been sent SD.

However, if your buyer submits the claim form, he can send in his ebay proof of purchase and paypal payment proof of what it has cost him. RM will then reimburse the loss to the buyer.

I had this scenario a while back, when I sold a piece of jewellery for which I no longer had the receipt. My buyer submitted the claim and eventually RM paid up.
