What are the odds on OP returning soon and saying. 'Coat has now been delivered to buyer...told you I was right not to refund'?

There was a post a while back that said the OP had sent it in brown paper - which is easy to rip and get lost in the system, leaving a coat stranded without an address and a piece of useless packaging.

I'd say the odds of it being lost are reasonable, given the buyer is saying that it hasn't appeared.

There was a thread about cheap mailing bags on here recently- and I second your advice. Throw away the brown paper and always use a plastic tamper proof bag like the catalogues use.

Slightly OT but I got a paperback yesterday from an Amazon marketplace seller in a single piece of brown paper. It's been caught at an edge and half the back brown paper wrapping ripped off and as it had brown mailing tape all round it that has stuck to the book cover now and it is all a bit of a mess. Luckily the machine caught the back so the return address has been lost but my address is intact. I've told the seller but have decided to keep the book and not leave feedback as this was the only affordable copy of a cult US book that I've seen in years.

also, and I mean this as kindly as I can. OP your signature is very telling:

    LBM 14/10/2012 - DEBT @ 31/10/12 £10,657.58

    CURRENT £9901.46
    SAVINGS - £2550 @ 31/10/12
    CURRENT - £3068
CLEAR DEBT AND GET HOUSE DEPOSIT BY OCT 2015!
I assume you are young if you are still saving for a house deposit and maybe extreme youth explains some of your stubbornness. However, worst case scenario if you don't refund is that you get hounded by debt collectors. Whislt we all accept they have limits with paypal debts they are not nice people and have had warning and fines already imposed for their strong arm tactics. Someone trying to get squeaky clean to buy a house in a few years does not need them hanging round their neck.

I would not wish the paypal debt collectors on anyone so assuming absolute worse case scenario and paypal put your account in negative and you never ever sell again on ebay or use your paypal account- they WILL pass it on for collection. W've even had people on here that have married, or temporarily moved in with a sibling (brother if I recall correctly) who has been 'linked' by ebay and had the debt taken from their account. Whether or not it can go to law at that point and money recovered from sibling or partner is immaterial really as it is the time and effort involved that is the problem.

It is telling to the point that I am honest. Yes I am still in my early 20s and much of my debt is due to University and I'm proud to be dealing with it quite effectively at the moment. Also the debt is nearly all at 0% interest.

I don't plan on holding out on paying the money full stop, that was never my intention. I will make the refund on 21st thus allowing me the maximum time for delivery to occur. If it doesn't I'll then put a claim in. If the coat then arrives and he signs for it before I am allowed to claim from the RM then I'll take him to a small claims court.

I already addressed that in the part where i said I WOULD NOT REFUND NOW !!!

So did i dream that you wrote this?:-

Therfore my point about Royal Mail having to accept your claim makes perfect sense. Of course - being the ignarmous you are - you were too busy attacking people. You attacked those who don't agree with you AND those that do.

Enjor your negative - it will have been well earned. Bet its lonely in your house.

I really don't care about the "negative". I will simply add a comment explaining as many ebay users are forced to these days. Yeh...real lonely....oddball.

Note that whilst it was in brown paper it has reems and reems of cellotape put around it. If it has been shredded I would be incredibly shocked. Even so, I'll just follow this plan of action through now,

There really isn't a comment you will be able to add to any feedback you receive that will inspire confidence in your future buyers.

Your buyer has told you the item hasn't arrived; you're refusing to refund until the last possible minute.

It will put other buyers off buying from you because you won't deal with problems in a timely manner.

Your buyer hasn't got his £40 coat.
Your buyer hasn't got his money.

Yet you think it is not your problem.

  • My advice to the OP would be to refund now, and also send a nice note to the buyer saying that you didn't really understand the system and sorry for all the hassle. Then after you 15 days is up claim from Royal Mail. If it does get delivered between that time, (Which is very unlikely), all you can do is ask very nicely to the buyer if they want to pay again. We all know the system is flawed, but sometimes you just have to go with what the majority think, even if you don't agree, just grit your teeth and do it. I can see that you are upset and angry, but venting your anger on members of this board doesn't help and makes them angry too. It is very hard when you are skint, but you need to change your attitude to the situation. You would be better off following the rules so that you can keep your ebay account and sell some other stuff to help your cashflow. Just keep calm, don't get so upset, send the refund, then go and do something nice to cheer yourself up!

Thanks for being so nice. I know some people have genuinely tried to help and I'm sorry to those of you who have done so without tearing me to peices. Guess I'm more comfortable dealing with people on my own terms and everyone will have different views.

I'm happy for the mods to delete this thread, it is way longer than I ever intended and has seriously gone way beyond the topic it was intended for (not an invitation to encourage people to start slating me again).

My book that arrived yesterday also had an outer 'coat' of brown parcel tape. All that happened is that something has caught and lifted an edge and all the parcel tape with it- torn half the back of the wrapping off leaving brown tape with jagged edges that have now stuck to the book.

If there was a return address (and that is usual on Amazon) then it has been destroyed entirely. My address on the front of the book has been lifted but as it was covered in clear tape it is still readable although it wouldn't have taken much more to have lost that as well.

It arrived in a plastic bag with an RM apology that item was damaged en route.
