Why? Nail in the coffin suggests a failing site, and eBay certainly is not that.
If you want scams try other sites like Gumtree or even Facebook selling as well.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Ebay used to be a cheap way for private sellers to sell 2nd hand goods safely. Ten years back I and my housemates used it regularly with no problems.
Now, it is overrun with cheap chinese crap, 'powersellers' who aren't much better and appear invincible, dodgy stuff of questionable origin, and scammers round every corner (if this site is to be believed). Their takeover of paypal means that you pay double fees on everything and they only ever side with the buyer - you can't even neg a buyer !!!!!!!0 -

What would you advise him to do now that we do know it is a scam, as he has received exactly the same email that I did? Can he cancel the transaction and if so how does he go about doing this?0 -

No one can force a seller to sell so if you are sure it is a scam then just refund the money and refuse to sell. A scammer is unlikely to want to draw attention to themselves by leaving a neg. the only issue will be FVFs and if you get a mutual out to the buyer and they do not respond then the fees are refunded on day 7 anyway. If they actually decline then keep trying cs until such time you get hold of Ireland and get the fees refunded that way if you can.
Scammers won't stick around, so if this is a scammer they are unlikely to peruse the matter and will just go on to the next seller.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
