Buyer with Zero feedback
Comments
-
Think of how you would feel in this situation as the buyer, paying over £200 to someone then getting a lot of aggro about who you were, where you lived, what you had bought before and so on. Would you be happy dealing with that seller? Imagine yourself in an ordinary shop buying an ordinary item of that value - would you be happy to be asked for utility bills, passport, proof of identity etc? Most people, so long as they get paid, happily sell all sorts of expensive items with no problems to people they don't know.
I just want to clarify that the buyer has not had any aggro from me about his purchase, he is completely oblivious to the few discreet enquiries I have so far made - he paid by Paypal and emailed me immediately to ask when I would be sending it to him. I replied thanking him for his payment and advising him that the courier would be collecting the package on Wednesday and that he could hopefully expect to receive it on Thursday as it is next day delivery. I have heard nothing else from him.
I have no problem selling expensive items on ebay and have done so for some time, even selling worldwide and sending to countries such as Russia with no problems. With hindsight, I should have listed this item as collection only (even if so doing it limited the number of potential buyers) because then I would have been paid cash on collection and if someone is paying you in hard cash then feedback is irrevelant.
I think your phrase "so long as they get paid" is crucial because we all know that Paypal are a law unto themselves and whilst they are telling me now that my buyer has paid and it is ok to send him the item, there is always the possibility that in 2 weeks time they come back with a chargeback because the account has been used fraudulently or whatever.
Anyway, believe it or not, in all my time on ebay this is the first time that I have had a buyer with zero feedback - I guess I must just have been lucky so far!0 -

A claim is not something to be worried about though is it?

You can only block low/zero feedback bidders with no credit card on file.
But if a buyer has bid, won and paid, that is all they have to do. You cannot refuse to send based on anything else and as Soo says, you have what you need to defend a claim if you send tracked.
There's no point delaying any more. That's not how eBay works, or anywhere else for that matter.
If you were worried, may I reiterate that the time to worry about possible scams, fraud etc. was before you listed it on eBay. You obviously know how it all works, so I suggest you think next time whether you are happy with what can happen before you list. You will save us a lot of hassle trying to convince you the buyer has done nothing wrong and pulling out now will cause more problems than actually sending the darn thing."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Where did I say I was pulling out? I've clearly stated several times that I have packed it up, booked the courier, advised the buyer and am awaiting collection on Wednesday.
I just wanted some advice on what sort of checks one could do when you have the situation of having a buyer with zero feedback and I did get some very good suggestions eg. 192.com which I was previously unaware of and which I have now used.
I agree that I will have all the documentation I need - collection receipt, tracking number etc - should everything not go according to plan.
Now off to ebay to check my blocked bidder's list!0 -
You can block zero feedback users as long as you also opt for the clause 'who have no card registered with ebay'. You cannot block them otherwise.

Which means they have both a paypal account and a card registered on ebay. How can "Don't have a PayPal account" mean they have?
How can "Have no credit card on file" mean they have a card registered?
That seems reverse logic.0 -

It is the 'don't' in front of that and the paypal one.
You block them if they 'don't have a .....I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sorry I'm terrible at explaining things, but that means your 0 feedback buyers 'do' have a credit card account registered and also have a paypal account That probably means they are using a new buying account for some reason and are not new to ebay.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
