Only the offensive ones. The advice to send tracked was sound. The seller will be fine if the tracking is in order.

gosh what a horrible saga for you o/p. sounds like rotten luck on yr part. i hope you get it resolved ok via pp.
• Just waiting to hear back from Paypal - I don't suppose they're in any rush!

Blooming annoying though - it took 3 weeks for them to do the chargeback.

I hope it gets settled before Xmas.

What should they have said?

"Oh no, don't send to buyers with no feedback. They're all scammers!!!"?

Well my transaction went perfectly - I did my homework on the buyer but still wasn't overly convinced - it only became more suspicious to me when it became clear that others had received exactly the same message word for word under the same circumstances for the same item - Maybe I was just lucky

Hope you get your money back

Hi - when you said you did your homework on the buyer, what exactly did you do/what checks did you make? Because basically that was my original question when I started this thread and although I got a couple of helpful responses such as 192.com and Google streetview it soon got lost in the whole "How dare I think someone with zero feedback is a scammer" argument (oh the irony!).
It would be useful to know what you can do in the circumstances to protect yourself from being scammed - in my case if only I had seen that previous thread on here about the PS3 scam I would have not proceeded with the sale. I should have done a more thorough search - my own stupidity!

Of course not, stop being silly. My comment refers to the rude ones like the on that said 'precious phone'. There was no call for that kind of tone.

What you should have done is what you did. There's no way to spot a scammer until it happens. In this instance, it's a bit inconvenient but your money is safe.

Thanks - I do hope so!

I have sold 3 ps3 over the last few months, each of those first sold to a 0 feedback account set up that very day, each of those accounts immediately sent
"hi just paid by paypal. when can i expect it to arrive? dont forget to send it recorded for our security. this is high value item and i dont want to lose it. please do not include any invoice as it is a bday present "

When I read that message I posted on the forum asking did anybody think it was a scam, and was directed to two identical threads with the same messages. The 3 addresses I sold to were all different, Wales Scotland and England, so its not the same person at each house. I made up my mind immediately that I wasnt sending out the Ps3. Its a scam, its impossible to get a word for word message from two different people 4 months apart. Then a few hours later I got a message from ebay saying
You have received a payment that we believe may not have been authorised by
the PayPal account holder. Here are the details of the transaction we are
investigating
.
No hassle there :T

The second one I sold (4 months later) I got the exact same message, immediately contacted Paypal by phone, told them it was a scam explained what happened last time. They didn't care said payment looks ok and to contact eBay if I thought it was a scam. Contacted eBay, they told me I was obliged to send out the item, even though I told them it was 100% a scam and even directed them to a year old thread on their message boards with the exact same word for word message for a sold PS3. Again I was told I was obliged to send it out . So I posted it with Parcelforce. 18 days later I recieved a message from eBay saying
Unfortunately, we had to cancel bids and purchases for the following buyer because they're no longer registered on eBay:

XXXXXX

In these types of situations, we'll credit the final value fee for removed listings won by this buyer, and also the insertion fee if it was a single-quantity listing.

We also recommend you take the following actions:
-- If you haven't received payment, don't complete the sale or send the item to the buyer.
-- Don't communicate with the buyer directly.
-- Verify any payments you've been notified of by logging in to your PayPal account (or other online payment service).
-- If the buyer requests refunds or additional payments, don't send any money without contacting eBay first.
-- If you've already sent the item, try contacting the shipping carrier to find out if you can stop shipment.

I have heard nothing else, I dont know what they will do with the payment. I still have it, but I have also sent out the item. I do have proof of course but I'm afraid to even spend the money as I'm afraid they will freeze and Investigate making a negative balance and messing me up for Xmas.

And I listed a 3rd PS3 two days ago it sold, and guess what message I got. So I don't know what to do with that one
