I'm in that group but I'm also a long way from getting Winter Fuel Allowance :D

Same here. By the time we get to pension age the allowance will have probably been 'cut' anyway :o

A male relative was 61 this year and because of the shift in pension ages could not receive it last year when he was 60, but is to get it this year, he is not on any benefit.

Hi we have received a letter yesterday for my Mum (85) for winter fuel. Unfortunately, my mum is now in a care home with Alzheimers so I need to ring them. My 45 year old brother who has downs syndrome still lives in the house (with support) hes on DLA either low or mid, and income support. Will he be entitled to anything instead of Mum?

If your mum is paying her own fees she's still entitled

Thank you for your replies. My Mum only pays most of her pension, she doesn't pay full to her care. Looking at the link I think my Brother will just get the odd payment when the temperature drops really low, I think he's got that before. I will let the people know my mum is in a home so they don't pay the money into her bank account. Thanks again
  • Ours came later last year than in 2010. I suppose there is some sort of system.........

then he need to apply to the winter fuel payment helpline

    https://www.gov.uk/winter-fuel-payment/how-to-claim

if he had been on benefit ie Pension Credit or State Pension then depending on when it went into payment it would be paid automatically.

Mmm, thought my post was clear enough, but obviously not!

He has applied hence the " but is to get it this year" in my post.

He isn't on state pension, hence "he is not on any benefit" in my post.

He won't get state pension until he is 65.

Hence why I replied to this post:-

goes by benefit, and then when there is a lot ie State Pension it goes in batches according to NI number.

With, "How can that work then?

If he is not on benefit, then it cannot relate to what benefit you are on!

It doesn't relate to any benefit, it never has, it goes by age and that has changed over the years.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
