A slightly more usefull answer might be that I tend to chop mine up before I freeze themDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I usually cook them before freezing (in a bit of water or butter)- or they have a tendency to turn a bit slimy when defrosted. They can then be added to casseroles or sauces.

I have read on this forum that some people freeze mushrooms. Do you slice them first so that they are ready to throw into a casserole/bolognase?
Do they lose their taste or do they go mushy?
I would appreciate some advice as I love mushrooms and never have them in when I need them.
ThanksWaddle you do eh?0 -
Hi fishhawks,
I cook whole mushrooms in butter before freezing if I plan to use them whole, otherwise I just chop, open freeze and bag for throwing into casseroles etc.
There's an older thread with lots of tips on freezing mushrooms so I'll merge your thread with it to keep all the replies together.

I wipe, slice and lightly saute in olive oil/butter then bag in portion sizes and freeze.
For spag bols etc. just pop them in 10 mins before the end of cooking - they're fine.
To reheat for breakfast, just cook them gently (from frozen) in a little oil/butter until heated through thoroughly and you won't know they've been frozenI am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Usually much better dried that frozen, I slice them first there is instructions on here http://www.cheftalk.com/forums/food-cooking-questions-discussion/2364-how-dry-mushrooms.html but if you search for 'dry mushrooms oven' on google there will be several options. Pressuming you don't have or have access to a dehydrator.
