    Hi agutka :)

We have an older thread about freezing mushroom that I think might be of help so I've added your post to it.

Since posts are listed in date order you'll need to read from the beginning to catch up :)

  • Doh! I was in Asda yesterday and they'd reduced big boxes of smartprice mushrooms to 30p, I saw a lady buying loads of them and wondered if she was an MES'er. I didn't buy any because I was under the impression that you couldn't freeze them and didn't fancy making loads of mushroom soup.

I'm now better informed and doubly kicking myself, when I realised I have an electric dehydrator recently given to me, so I could have dried the mushroom glut in that and stored them for later use. Did that recently with some apples and mandarins I got cheap and they're now in Xmas pot pourri to give as gifts! Being new to money saving I can see I have a lot to learn  Next time I'll get the cheap items then ask on here, I bet someone will have an idea how to use it even if I don't. save missing out on a bargain :D

As the title suggests. Can I freeze these for later use in different dishes?

You can dry mushrooms but I think freezing them makes them go a bit nasty when they're thawed. I'd cook them first then freeze but I'm no expert even though I do love mushrooms :D

I often freeze mushrooms: I slice them first and then use them when I need them. But I only use them for things like sauces and stews as once defrosted they are not nice enough to use raw, in salads for instance

  • I slice and blanch them. Open freeze for an hour or so then tip into a bag to shake out into sauces, etc when needed. They are only really useful for stews, risottos and sauces as they do go a little bit too soft for other uses.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • I'm the same as the others, regularly freeze mushrooms and then tip them still frozen into casserole, spag bol, etc. I find it really useful to have them in the freezer and stock up when they're cheap! :)
