    Hi reehsetin,

Ok what is the secret in posting !!!!! cat without upsetting the net nanny?

Am I the only person who logs onto the forum and gets logged off again by the system before I've even found yesterday's posting let alone responded to it?

    Hi meher,

So it is your fault that I read ALL of the MAAF thread before I signed up for its broadband service. (I have also read all of Eagerlearner's saga - I must get a life some time!)

Seriously though there are some subjects where one liners, especially when the content is repeated or simplistic, are just as frustrating. The carbon saving versus money saving debate is one where "if you you are not already pretty confused, you obviously have not begun to understand the problem".

    Best wishes

    Harry

PS My chance to be childish: I've a sister who lives at the back of beyond, with a view of the river Trent. Perhaps she wishes her home was nearer Gainsborough than the former steel town a bit further north.

[It seems that the oldest joke in the book, actually passes this net nanny! My appologies to any occupants of the steel town - I had a memorable visit there in 1968 during the "Summer of Love"]

People who quote a full post to respond to a small part of it. Seriously people if someone posts an A4 page sized post you have the power to edit it when quoting.

And big signatures, there's only so much scrolling one can take.

:o Actually, my geography is really bad - I had to look up Gainsborough on mapquest and then pan north, but well worth it for the punchline!

[blah blah blah} the thing is, if I'm so b***dy brilliant, why am I still broke?

Absolutely right. I've pm'd another user on here (with a very high post count) who always quotes the whole of the post she's replying to, even when she's replying directly beneath it.

She was really stroppy back at me by pm too!

    For goodness's sake!

If you are replying to the last post in a thread, you don't need to quote at all, unless you are replying to a specific section instead of the whole thing. In that case, quote the specific section NOT the whole thing.

    It's not hard. :)

People who pick on your crap spelling and grammar in an argument.

Today I upgraded to Firefox 2.x and while I was at it, I plugged in "siteadvisor" (see thread on free protective software) and the dictionary, set for English English.
Now when I try to post something that is spelt incorrectly I get the word underlined in red and just like "Word", if I right click the dodgy word it offers suggestions.
So being able to spell dyslexia makes me look as clever as I always thought I woz.

How is that for getting off thread while being self satisfied, having a bash at foreigners and suggesting another poster might be crap because of a mental deficiency. Or should I just be an ironic old fool who really thinks :A ?

There is a monthly competition for the most nominated post of the month, with a prize of 50 GBP.
However the winner is normally someone who has spotted a unique loophole or similar lucky break.

There must be dozens of really dedicated people on the Forum. They push on through thick and thin without much chance of recognition.

I think there should be an additional prize for "Heroes of MSE Community" given for sheer dedication over a period of months.

My eclectic personal list of "Heroes" is:

EagerLearner for supporting justice in the rented property jungle.

James for his "pins protect banks not people" anti fraud campaign.

THE REAL BEARDY BLOB for his campaign to shut down a nasty little fraudster.

espresso for helping me up my broadband speed by half as much again.

Cardew (yes really) for services to de-bunking greenwash claims.

almacmil for discussing the features of GSHP's (check acronym on google).

Finally (this one does not really fit) Samara for being the hardest working town in Russia.

    Harry.

Another irritation I am starting to see (maybe I've only just noticed it) is the posters asking for a cheap 'hotel/holiday/flight etc etc without saying waht their budget is. How do we know what they reagrd as cheap otherwise?

There's a bit of a clique who make it hard to join in. I was called an AE today but didn't know what it meant till before. All the dd's,dh's etc are hard to understand! People thanking their mates when the post is not saying anything and ignoring genuine helpful posts. It's a good site, though

    Well, what is it?

Don't you just hate posters who stray off topic?;)
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
