thing is its not a public forum where people have the right to say what they want, the forum isnt owned by the public its owned privately by martin and co and they have the right to monitor whats on their website. they do not discriminate against who can use the forum therefore the site has to be suitable for a wide range of society including kids etc and the site has to protect itself legally from defamation
i would see no difference with a forum and a magazine's letters page, they have the right to publish what they want.

MSE is a victim of it's own success.

Many threads are way too long and unweildy and unless you visit daily it is impossible to keep up with some of it - and that's just the stuff that does not go off topic.

For people who have lives away from their computers and who do not live on MSE it is impossible to come back and make a posting to try and help others without running the risk of being flamed for it because it's now a duplicate.

It is just not possible to read EVERYTHING first so probably many people who do visit just don't bother to contribute.

I would add to that the wholly inappropriate responses you read sometimes. I don't mean responses you may not agree with I mean those that bear very little if any relation to the OP, or, that are so OTT (the proverbial sledgehammer/nut) frankly as to be laughable.
But that's not an MSE thing, that's just people I s'pose...

This thread is about what irritates people, so I think it's fair enough to point out other things people do which are irritating. I don't see that as being awkward and nor is that my style.
