  • don't get me started

but just one thing I'll mention is the uber PC correctness on here and the fact that even the mildest of swear words are censored/removed - get a life moderators - seriously

Couldn't agree more. Another thing I've noticed about forums which were once a great deal more interesting re topical matters (including this one) is that when the majority of board guides are women, uber PC becomes the norm. I also think that a contributory factor to this may be the fact that women whinge and report posts that they find 'offensive' much more than men do.

    As doitmyself said
Also, can't stand the pointless hugs and kisses. Sometimes someone, perhaps quite mature and eloquent will post their situation in all seriousness and get relatively bombarded by a load of silly smilies and things from what I assume is a bunch of very young girls offering their support. It's not like it's sincere, and it certainly isn't helpful...

The Discussion Forum on this site used to have a bit of spark to it but it has been reduced to a dying splutter since the 'girly' element became more prolific.

Apologies to any female board guides who would like to see a bit more contentiousness permitted, but are simply overwhelmed by the whingers, and to those who leap to report this post as being 'sexist'..... I'm a woman. :D

Grrrr @ folk who hijack a thread to bang on with their own morality, such as one on the mortgage board which has been used as a vehicle for someone to go on and on and on about bank charges.

Grr even louder @ some of the silly acronyms that pointless. DD? I had to PM someone once to ask what a thread was about, I had no idea. DD is darling daughter by the way, for anyone who doesn't know. DD???!?!
    I mean... !!!!!!? :)

People who ask advice, then when the truth is told to them, they can't hack it. LOL why am I here when I moan so much? :)
  • the one thing that really bugs me is when someone asks a question, maybe about where to buy something... the best price for it or even just asking for advice and the first few posters say nothing but
"sorry i cant help you," or
"i dont know where you would get that... but good luck anyway"
I know its 'polite' but seriously why bother posting??!!
its not like your in a one to one conversation where you absolutely have to reply or appear rude, SOMEONE will be along eventually and give a useful answer, until then these unhelpful people should just back away from the thread slowly :)
it just smacks of pandering for thanks.

    guilty as charged sir :o

I do that, sometimes its because the post might have dropped to the bottom of the page so its to take it back to the top, or that the post has been there a long time and I think that after a post has been there a certain time people tend to disregard it, so I think ho hum lets get some help for the poster and hopefully someone who has just logged on will see the post in question.

So does that help you any ? am I forgiven :rotfl: :rotfl:

I'm so glad someone cleared up the AE business, I thought it was the front of an IOU.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

If we have a problem and unless it's in response perhaps it's best not to name and shame a person - to me it seems quite indecent thing to do but then it speaks about the person who has named another and not the person who was shamed ;)
It wasn't naming and shaming! I honestly wondered why you had done it and that's why I mentioned your name, so that you would respond. And thanks for doing so.

If I'd realised you were writing a poem, I would have kept my mouth shut! :)

    1. The search function .. a search that can't find anything 1st time is pretty useless, and very annoying, especially with the inbuilt delay and wiping of your search criteria. You shouldn't have to go through 10 hoops to get there. Replace it with a form which sends the search criteria to google if you don't want people to use search.

    2. Over-zealous censorship and deletion of non-contentious posts.
Both so true. I have recommended in other threads that people use Google to search this site, as it does a far better job than the site's own search engine. (To search MSE for posts about "over-zealous censorship", type into Google "over-zealous censorship" site:forums.moneysavingexpert.com - don't try it right now as Google hasn't indexed this thread yet, but it's very good when searching for slightly older stuff).

I have had non-contentious posts deleted as part of mass purges of threads. I find the censorship rather OTT and very rude - I have pm'd to ask why my post has been deleted and been ignored, and the mod didn't pm me to tell me that my thread had been deleted or why, either. Both are pretty appalling behaviour IMHO.
